Arriving at the L'Ancienne École restaurant, the first thing we noticed was the friendly staff and a nice, spacious interior. We found our reservation right away and were seated at a nice little table for two. The atmosphere in the restaurant was great, the tables are separated enough for you to have your privacy, the service on the table is really excellent, as is the service in the restaurant. There isno a large selection of dishes, but what they have, at least for us, was excellently prepared. The dishes were really well prepared and we enjoyed them. The wine list is good and there are interesting local wines that are worth trying.
For starters we tried "Velouté de champignons, espuma au lard fumé, rapé de truffe noire, tuiles croquantes aux noisettes" which is actually mushroom soup which was fantastic and "Carotte cake, rillettes de canard à l'orange et au cumin houmous de carottes et sa gelée" a wonderful appetizer with a wealth of flavors.
For the main course we ate "Paleron de bœuf Fleuron des Pyrénées confit, gratin de pommes de terre et céleri rave à la cardamom, jus corsé façon vin chaud aux épices" where the beef was really superb as a side dish and we hope that Chef this dish will never change. :) The second dish was "Brochettes de magret de canard et gambas, laque gingembre-citron au poivre Sancho, embeurrée de chou parfumée aux agrumes" which is actually a skewer with very tasty goose breast meat.

Read moreWe went there on august 5th. The food was delicious. As an amuse bouche they served us courgette carrot salad with a half cherry tomato at the top. My 8 year old daughter loves cherry tomatoes and she speaks perfect French. She asked the waitress in a very polite way if she can have couple of tomatoes. The waitress directly turned to her and said no because it is not on the menu. You are serving tomatoes on a salad and not wanting to give a child 3-4 tomatoes. If i didnt see any tomatoes in anything they served, of course I would have understood their no. Sorry but I dont accept this kind of attitude. Read moreWe visited the restaurant to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary. It was a Sunday night but even so the restaurant was quite busy... but not too busy. The atmosphere inside the restaurant was extremely pleasant and the waiting staff attentive, friendly and helpful. The food was excellent , fresh, local , seasonal ingredients and extremely attractively presented. The price points were a little more than we normally pay but it was a special occasion and it felt special.
