Cafe de la paix — Restaurant in Calvi

Avoid this place. The person who appeared to be in charge is a nasty, bigoted person. She interrupted when another person was serving us and insisted that only ravioli was available. This was plainly not true, but we agreed to try it. The ravioli we were given was not enough between us for one person, and it was very cold apart from a few tepid areas that a microwave must have had time to heat. The ravioli was served in a red slop, devoid of any texture or flavour. We were served this in bowls with handles broken off, with sharp bits sticking out where the handles once were. We were given no condiments and no sugar for coffee. The plastic bottle of water was the cheapest available from Spar.

We had to pay €30 for this carefully contrived insult. It is true what another reviewer said; the two adjacent frontages are indeed part of one barely legitimate operation.

On a positive note, this was the only bigot we had the misfortune to encounter during our stay on Corsica. We found everyone else to be friendly and courteous. All the French holiday makers were charming...

We visited Café de France for our evening meal (Café de France and Café de la Paix are in effect two cafés with different names but offering the same service). We were disappointed on a number of levels. There was very little choice, and the dishes we ordered might be considered starters in the UK, but with main dish prices. That might have been acceptable if the food was good but it was average. We asked for tap water, but instead were served a bottle of still water for which we were charged €3.50. There were flies (not something the café could do something about) and cats (which they could). And the waitress looked like she didn't really care. At one point a stray dog chased one of the cats through the restaurant, and it shimmied up a tree. Its fellow cats then turned on the dog in a brief show of bravado. That was the highlight of...

Enttäuschendes Erlebnis – Wir kommen sicher nicht wieder!!!

Wir waren eine Gruppe von neun Personen und leider sind wir uns alle einig: Dieses Kaffeehaus war eine große Enttäuschung. Schon beim Eintreffen wurden wir eher unfreundlich begrüßt. Wir wollten uns auf einen Tisch setzen und unsere Gruppe etwas aufteilen, damit es für alle bequemer ist. Das war dem Betreiber jedoch nicht recht – obwohl das Lokal völlig leer war. Stattdessen wurden wir angewiesen, uns an einen anderen Tisch zu setzen. Wir waren zu diesem Zeitpunkt die einzigen Gäste.

Die Getränke kamen nach normaler Wartezeit, wurden jedoch einfach in die Mitte des Tisches gestellt – ohne ein Wort und ohne zu sagen, was für wen war. Wir mussten uns alles selbst aufteilen, und das Personal war dabei deutlich unfreundlich. Der Kaffee war zudem wässrig und hatte weder Aroma noch Geschmack – für ein Kaffeehaus in Frankreich wirklich enttäuschend.

Als ich am Ende die Rechnung verlangte, wurde mir lediglich ein handgeschriebener Zettel mit Name, Summe und Datum in die Hand gedrückt. Die Bedienung setzte sich anschließend an einen Tisch und spielte am Handy, anstatt die Zahlung entgegenzunehmen. Schließlich musste ich selbst aufstehen, zu einem anderen Mitarbeiter gehen und dort extra nachfragen, um bezahlen und die Rechnung erhalten zu können. Das war äußerst unangenehm und völlig unprofessionell.

Fazit: Unfreundlicher Empfang, schlechter Service, mittelmäßige Qualität, fragwürdige Abrechnung und keinerlei Gastfreundschaft. Für uns steht fest – dieses Café werden wir ganz sicher nicht...
