To understand the shortcomings and negative experience you are likely to have at Casa Musicale is to understand the fake and uninviting village that is known as Pigna. The village is nothing more than a pre-fab tourist trap designed to give tourists the real feel of what a Corsican village is like. But it falls short. This is not a real village, it's a government subsidized theme park to try to get more tourists up into the mountains. There are NO real stores in Pigna, no market, no real cafe, no post office, no nothing. Just a few shops selling overpriced "artisanal" junk. The tiny village is crammed to the point of bursting with tourists, all with giant wide angle camera lenses. If you want a photo of one of the cute cobbled lanes, you will have to take the photo with other people taking photos in your shot. Casa Musicale suffers the same fate as this over touristed village. If you are staying there, the tourist droves will be passing by your room in large crowds with cameras, smoking cigarettes, talking loudly and chatting on their cell-phone. The restaurant is good but be prepared for a dog-fight to get a table with a view. They say they reserve a certain # of tables for guests at the hotel but it's not true. This is a first come first serve establishment. Overall, while the view from our room was lovely, it was ruined by all the tourists walking by at all hours of the day including the early morning. This was our first destination in Corsica. As to be expected there wasn't a lot, if any english spoken in this town or in the hotel. A few of the waitstaff had good enough english, but be prepared to learn some french quickly, I did and it served me well. The hotel is a bit of a walk from parking. If you are brave enough you can get pretty close to the hotel to drop off your bags, but do be careful. Parking is located in the public lot about a five minute walk from the hotel, possible less, who's looking at their watch in a town like this?... The hotel room was simple, as I believe it would be in a french summer house, you aren't there to be inside. You are inside to sleep. The hotel can be a bit loud after dinner, as people get another bottle after dinner. All in all though its charming, simple, great food and beautiful views. I wouldn't hesitate to book a few weeks in this hotel. Trips to the beach in the morning take about 20 to 30 minutes, and the transition from up in the hills to beach is great. Enjoy this place, don't try...
