Brasserie Artisanale & Restaurant Ardwen — Restaurant in Charleville-Mézières

In the early 20th century the Ardennes region of France had over 200 working breweries, which were decimated during two world wars. After the German confiscation of copper during WWII, only a couple dozen breweries in the region remained. When Ardwen brewery opened in 2006 the founders were proud to help revitalize the craft brewing tradition in this area. The sizable brewery produces award winning beers and has an attached brewpub restaurant which is good for visitors. There is a dedicated parking lot in front. The large one-story wooden building houses the brewery on the left. In front is a large black sign with gold letters. Large windows allow you to see the large stainless steel brewing vessels inside, and further back are stainless steel fermenters. It is a large operation and they bottle their beer for distribution. On the right is an outdoor wooden patio near the entrance to their restaurant. Inside is a spacious dining room with distinctive red and bright green table cloths. On the left is a bottle shop area where they sell small and large format bottles of their beer to go. In the center of the room is a walk-up service bar with a stainless steel tap tower with 7 of their beers on tap. It is also stocked with wine and liquor so they is something for everyone. They usually do not serve a sampler flight, but if you plan to stay for a meal you’ll be able to have a few of their beers. The beer is served in distinctive brewery labeled stemware glasses which are conducive for getting the full aroma of each beer. My favorite was their 8% Triple, a delicious and strong ale. The restaurant exquisitely good food, while also being affordable. I visited for lunch when they have a limited menu lunch combo with a starter, main dish and dessert. The food was delicious with a perfect variety of creative ingredients. The staff is welcoming and the kitchen was fast, but the table service was a little slow. All things considered this is a model for how good a small brewpub...

Cadre très sympathique et personnel chaleureux. Malheureusement des prix trop élevés pour le service proposé. Nous arrivons à 19:30 et il n’y a déjà plus de bière à la cerise (un samedi soir?). Au moment de commander, nous demandons des burgers mais encore une fois déception car il n’y avait plus que 3 steaks disponibles en cuisine (encore une fois, il était à peine 20h, un samedi soir…). Soit. Je choisi donc le dos de lieu noir avec sauce au beurre et riz, plat qui arrive à peine chaud. Une autre personne à table avait demandé une viande bien cuite, elle est arrivée saignante. Je demande donc à ce que mon plat soit réchauffé, et la serveuse très gentille renvoie mon plat en cuisine. J’ai attendu 10/15 minutes et le cuisinier a REFAIT mon plat (ce qui est très aimable) mais qui est à nouveau arrivé tiède. Dommage ! Cependant les burgers au maroilles étaient très bons, mais encore une fois les prix sont un peu élevés. Nous avons malheureusement été déçus ! Le cadre et le personnel restent quand même très...

Mocht je een keer verdwalen op het platte land van de Franse Ardennen dan kan je hier gerust een tafeltje reserveren. Of gewoon even aan de bar gaan zitten. Het is van oorsprong een bierbrouwerij waarbij men een restaurant runt. Goede prijs kwaliteit verhouding. Op doordeweekse dagen zelfs nog extra korting op de lunch waardoor we een driegangen menu hadden voor €17😳👍, waar kom je dat nog tegen. Het eten smaakte best en de porties waren ruim. Voldoende keuze op de kaart maar ook dagschotels die niet op de kaart staan. Wel hoofdzakelijk vleesgerechten en vis dus als je vega bent even vragen wat men klaar kan maken voor je. In ons geval kon men twee maaltijd salades aanbieden, 1 met lokale kazen en 1 met ei. Men denkt mee. Natuurlijk heerlijke zelfgemaakte bieren van het vat en dat tezamen met een glimlach in de bediening maakt dit een prima stop onderweg of een bestemming voor een...
