Le Compostelle — Restaurant in Confolens

Very well presented restaurant in a beautiful setting. The friendly staff are happy to discuss the extensive wine selection to suit both the food and your taste. The most surprising thing, however, was that quite often, the quality of the food means that the quantity is reduced, but this is not the case here, the food was exquisite and fulfilling. The establishment is definitely aiming high and achieving that goal. Service was perfect even though most of the tables were filled, can't say that in many places. It's you struggle with French then the staff are able to speak English when your vocabulary runs out. The overall feel of this restaurant is that they should be in a large city somewhere, however, I'm ecstatic that it isn't, and fairly accessible to us. Visited in August 2022 for lunch with my elderly parents and twenty something son. The service was grudging, grumpy and downright rude. We were told my parents (both over 75) couldn't just have a starter but must both have a meal - for which they weren't hungry. Place was half empty but the excuse was they could sell the table to others. Clearly they didn't feel they were making enough money from us. A real contrast to most places where senior citizens were welcomed. The food was fine but not exceptional....

We found this to be a really charming and lovely restaurant, set in an old farmhouse grounds. Menu was limited but the food was all excellent and the staff friendly, and willing to help us with the courses in English.
