Had perhaps the worst meal in my 30 plus years of travelling and working in France. I was just looking forward all day to a straightforward steak salad and chips after a 500km drive up from Burgundy. When it came, it was tiny - the steak was the size of a couple of beech leaves, and leathery - not 'bien cuit' but simply way-overcooked. The salad was no more than a tiny garnish - 3 torn lettuce leaves and half a cherry tomato. The chips were unexceptional , half cold frozen French fries in a small portion made to look cute in a silly little basket. This nasty plate cost me nearly 18 euros. My partner is vegan - and just wanted a mixed salad and chips. This was not possible - he had to select a vegetarian salad full of melon and pineapple ( which he didn't want) but taking out the cheese. This cost just the same as if it had contained the cheese ( he is allergic) but contained no nutritional value at all, and no effort was made to add anything in place of the cheese. The waiter was clearly unable to go to the kitchen and just request a mixed salad.
I asked for a blonde beer and got something amber and malty.
We were really unhappy and I told the waiter I thought it was really poor. His response was that it was my opinion and that they didn't usually get complaints.
I can only say that I strongly do NOT recommend this rip off restaurant. If you stay at the Balladins as we did, you'd be better off at the new local Subway : cheap and nasty but at...
Read moreThe food was excellent and the restaurant is clean. However, on Google it states the restaurant opens at 18:30, and on their door they state “horaires d’ouverture” of 18:00 onwards, and “horaires restauration” of 18:45 onwards. We arrived at the restaurant at 18:40 in 0 degree weather with a baby in tow but the woman in charge of opening the restaurant would not let us in until 18:45. She told us that the opening hours posted on the front door were for employees, not for customers, but I and the members of my party speak French and there was absolutely no indication on the sign that this was the case. If anything it implied you could come in and get a drink from 18:00 but no food until 18:45 which makes perfect sense.
It was an extremely bizarre explanation on her part and she even saw we had a baby with us in the cold so I found her behavior inconsiderate. I would have understood if the sign said opening at 18:45 and then waited happily in my car but it simply did not.
The only reason we stayed was because we were too tired to go elsewhere, but I will not be returning, even though the food was excellent. I can find excellent food all over France, and better service in many of...
Read moreArrived in Dieppe after a long drive and this place hit the spot. Plenty of space inside, open on a Sunday night, plenty of choice on the menu. Went for 4 cheese pizza, burger and bavette steak, pretty straight forward, good portions and very tasty although the bavette was a bit on the small side. Desserts were great - dame blanche ice cream was massive. Atmosphere was a bit like an upmarket wetherspoons, plenty of room for large families. All in all better for us than faffing around in the port, when everything is either...
