We have been twice and both times service was bad. The first we booked dinner for 6.30pm. We arrived early at 6.00 as we had moored a fair distance away in our boat. Service was slow and lackadaisical and even though we were right outside no greeting or drink was offered. . Staff arrived and sat down to their own dinner. 6.30 came and went without the door opening. We were eventually allowed in where it turned out they thought our booking was 7.30. Ok never mind. Although customer service might have been good if they had offered us a drink at the outside table where we waited. Anyway, we were seated at a balcony table overlooking the river. Very nice. This was at 6.30pm. We waited at least half an hour without being offered anything at all. No water. No drinks. Eventually at about 7.15 they offered us a drink. From then on it was all good. Delicious food and a good time had by us. The second time we moored our boat on the rickety pontoon outside. It was difficult to moore as four unattended fishing lines were in place on the pontoon and stayed there all night! Again, food good, service poor. We recommended this to other boaties, warning them the food was good but customer service lackadaisical to non-existent. So they booked lunch and we just heard from them. They left after one entree and one appetiser in two hours even though they booked. It’s a shame because it’s a lovely setting and the food is good but the overall impression is they don’t want to be running a restaurant. My advice? Sell on to someone who wants to...
Read moreAt last we found a restaurant which was actually open in a village along the Saône!!! But soon our joy would be turned to the usual level of disappointment. Despite being open and having maybe 40 tables all eagerly prepped and excitedly looking forward to having paying visitors with only 5 tables occupied...the owners clearly less enthusiastic than their prepped tables informed us due to a new adopted management style they were at their maximum number of visitors and all they could offer us were coffee and not even an ice cream for our (now distraught) little boy! The management style is called "Standard French" positively designed to annoy absolutely everybody and invented shortly after the battle of Waterloo out of utter spite. It is little wonder France is in such an economic mess on the verge of collapse. As demonstrated throughout the entire history of France, as a place, full of potential, as a people,...
