La Papote — Restaurant in Fontainebleau

Nice setting, good service and tasty food. But… The portion sizes of the main dishes are tiny. Like tapas or starters- nouvelle cuisine at its prettiest but least filling. In reality you need to order 2 or 3 plats at €9-12 each, plus one or two side dishes (which are more normally sized and good value at €4). My boudin noir was to be served with parsnips and ‘granny smith’. But it was a single slice of boudin, some julienne slivers of Granny Smith, a few parsnip crisps and some puréed blobs of baby food that were unrecognisable. Pretty and tasty but not satisfying. The wine was good but started at €5 a glass (fine) but no carafes/ pichets (disappointing). So all in all, nice setting, nice staff, tasty but very dainty food. But anticipate at least € 50 a head for a satisfying meal. To be fair the waitress did ask me if everything was okay - well I was enjoying it so I said yes. I don’t think my review is unfair because if she had asked me if I thought the offer overall was good I would have given the above view. Maybe just put a note on the menu/ web site explaining the plats are child sized and ordering several is...

A lovely place, with a wonderful staff, who's very friendly and welcoming, I spent a moment in family, simply being spoiled. The food is beyond delicious, every single detail is so well calculated, the portions are more than adapted to each stomach. In each plate there is a small surprising thing, but a beautiful surprise ( I don't fancy sweet with salty, but the pear there...yum!). My kids loved each plate and were so spoiled! Thank you for the extra attention for both kids, especially when they were fighting on the popcorn, it was hilarious.

And the wine..so nice!

The best surprise over the last year! I have loved everything about this experience - from the moment we have arrived - the Owner have reserved the parking spot regardless our late arrival, the room, the “small” one was actually not at all small, king size bed, a lot of wonderful and remarkable details like the quality of linens and towels, you will love it! I recommend it especially for INSEAD guests, we came for the Summer Ball, they were so cool to drive us to the event and drive us back from Fonty to the place at 3AM! The breakfast was delicious! Don’t doubt...
