Le Café de la Place - Le Sappey-en-Chartreuse — Restaurant in Grenoble

At entrance we were greeted with a cloud of big black flies. We should have listened to the warning. The waitres approached us in a hostile way: are you going to eat here? Are you going to eat here? (In fench, wich is not my mother language, I can speak it tough). Not friendly at all. We were placed at a table, where a extremely nice collegue took over. We ordered the ‘plat du jour’ almost never dissapointing. Union soup, rice with saucisse in red tomato sauce. Sounded good. Up on arrivel we saw a good union soup with grated melted cheese. Inside it was more like a compote, thick old onion mush. Taste was ok. But really not soup. Main course was rice, with red sauce and sausisson. No tast at all. Blank, plain. Seemed to be made a week ago. In the end we did not finish it, and felt strangely bad in the stomache.(the whole afternoon) We did not complain but asked the girls at the counter to please inform the owner. We were helped with more effort and smiles in Grenoble. Note: maybe forbid the staff to use their phones, and use the time to take care of the guests and their surroundings. Eat there,...

As others have said; Food is a little pricey but not too bad (€18 for x2 coffees and x2 crepes).

The location is wonderful. I’ve drive up the mountain from Grenoble. Car park in town is a good size and free to park.

Upon arriving we were originally put on deck chairs on the grass away from other customers when there were lots of open tables. We found this very odd and asked to be moved. We were then put on a table which was not laid out which again felt very odd.

When going to pay, we were referred to as “the English” by the staff who didn’t speak much English. Again, we appreciate we should know some local language but this felt very off putting.

Stopped off here for lunch after running through the mountains and I was absolutely starving. I ordered the cod and it was super quick and delicious. For dessert I had a chocolate mint ganache and it was like I was eating mint leaves - so fresh and so delicious. Loved it. My server was lovely also. Unfortunately the low point was when one of the servers allowed 2 women without a pass sanitaire to enter. Everybody else had to supply one and were happy to do so so this was extremely disappointing. If people are too crazy/too lazy/ too selfish to not get vaccinated or at least get tested that's there problem but in no one should they be given...
