Restaurant "LA COURONNE" — Restaurant in Haguenau-Wissembourg

I stayed an evening in Rohrwiller in June 2024 and was seeking a local restaurant in the village within walking distance of the wonderful Bed & Breakfast Coeur de Village. A La Couronne was recommended highly so I went for it - and did not regret it. I was warmly greeted, even moreso when it was evident that I was from the US, and the owners made special efforts to communicate to me in English. I “read” the menu - used Google translate for help - and everything looked delicious. I explained what I really wanted- a side salad, vegetarian pizza, and per recommendation from my daughter a Monaco aperitif - and was delighted in the service and the flavorful meal. To top it off I chose a crème brûlée from an assortment of desserts - great choice. What made the visit most special was the attention from the owners, who seemed to treat each guest with the same welcoming attention. I am rooting for them to have good success with their restaurant as it is very evident this is a long time dream venture of theirs. We stopped here on a road trip from Steiermark to Bretagne and were pleasantly surprised by this unique location. It is a bar, bistro, café, and betting parlor (lottery and some sort of sports betting) combo. That atmosphere is relaxed, and, for folks worried about the gambling aspect, not scruffy in any way.

We arrived much too early for dinner. The cook wasn’t in yet, but the owner kindly called him to see if he would come in earlier. While waiting, we enjoyed some beers and met some talkative locals—a highlight of our vacation.

Zusammenfassend hinterlässt diese Erfahrung einen bitteren Nachgeschmack – vermeide diesen Ort um jeden Preis, wenn du Respekt und Qualität im Service schätzt. L’expérience a été si déplorable que, au lieu de profiter d’un moment agréable, nous nous sommes retrouvés plongés dans une atmosphère toxique et hostile. Pour couronner le tout, alors que nous étions en France, ils ont refusé de nous servir en anglais et en espagnol. Ici, on n’offre pas la moindre courtoisie ni professionnalisme, mais bien un service froid et offensant qui gâche complètement la visite.
