Le Bistrot du Bar à Quai — Restaurant in La Rochelle

Arrived here on a very pleasant weekend housesit and tried this restaurant, which was a short walk for us. First time we had the daily menu for € 13.50 for 2 choices. We chose starter & plat which was very nice. Second day we opted to return as the island was manic with fête National visitors in the popular places. We ate off menu, but still good food and incl 1 glass of wine ( good measure) 1 large beer 1 bottle of coke 2 main meals 2 desserts 56 euro whi h having lived on the mainland for 15 years and knowing to expect to pay more here on the Ile de Rey, we thought wasnt too bad. Sadly there is a waiter there who either dislikes the English or Lesbians or both. He came to take our order and I asked him if he had any menus, at this point he stroppily brought two chalk boards/specials boards and knocked over a water onto my daughter's placemat and her lap. He did not apologise, nor offer a replacement water. Luckily the food was quite nice and we had a friendly young lady replacement waitress but it's really disheartening and unacceptable to be mistreated like this. Don't go if you are...

Really a missed opportunity for this amazing location next to the market square. Service has been more than rude, 2 days in a row, with different waiters. So it looks like a cultural problem. Example : we booked a table. Asked someone to seat us. We did. Someone else then come and tell us we surely did seat by ourselves. Basically accusing us to lie. One example of many.
