After a long drive with unintended detours due to road closures, we were very tired and very hungry arriving in Arc-en-Barrois. The hostess at our lodging recommended Auberge du Lac and even phoned for us to make a reservation. We were so glad she did! Our dining experience at this restaurant was fantastic! Our server managed to understand my Google-assisted French and we enjoyed a delicious meal of charcuterie, duck, beef, fries, chocolate mousse, baguettes and drinks. We were even more impressed when we received our bill! So much food for such a fair and affordable price! The atmosphere of the restaurant was comfortable and cozy, as if we were dining in someone's private home. I cannot say enough nice things about...

Stopped by for lunch on the drive between Calais and the French Alps - about 15 minutes from the motorway and well worth it. Absolutely loved the food - we had everything from cauliflower soup, haddock, duck and snails. All very good and reasonable prices. Although feeling very full, we couldn't resist dessert - the Ile flottante, the Berry Gingerbread Mousse and the chocolate cake all excellent. Good sorbet too. I highly recommend a visit to this restaurant! There is something for everyone. Free parking nearby. A view over the lake. Set menus or a la carte. My limited French not a problem. Service friendly - the server specially checked with the kitchen to confirm ingredients...

We come here every time we visit our vacation home, the food is delicious, always fresh and of good value. The cook can speak english and is very helpful when a customer like me isn't very fluid in french. The ambience is rustic and has the local charm the region. They don't try to pretend being something fancy, they are down to earth and will win over your heart and your taste buds with comfort food for good prices. The salade paysanne is to die for and the meats and cheeses... I really need to visit this wonderful location soon!

I did not eat at the restaurant, but I had a sandwich and a beer at the bar. I rode up off of the Via Francigena after having rode that day for almost 6 hours without finding anywhere open. The lady behind the bar took pity on me, and made me a huge jambon beurre with pickles, served me a beer and a coffee, and made me feel so good compared to how I was when I came in. The service was good, the sandwich excellent and her hospitality much appreciated.
