Les Épicuriens Restaurant — Restaurant in Laon

A wonderful location for dinner, overlooking the garden and weeping willow tree, lit up with fairy lights. The staff spoke a little English to hemp interacting with us, which was appreciated. A word of caution, in the evening there are mosquitos, so bring repellant to be on the safe side.

The local champagne was delicious and reasonably priced. So much better than the big named champagne houses.

We opted for the 3 course menu at €60. Everything was clearly made in house, and using fresh local ingredients. We started with an amuse bouche of crab and salmon, which was a nice way to start, then a ceviche of fish in a soup, with a meaty fish. The starters of asparagus and terrine was a nice start. Well seasoned and accompanied by a wonderful soughdough bread. We had the beef and meagre (fish) as the main courses. The beef was succulent and fell apart, accompanied by a rich, but not overpowering, sauce. The fish was fresh, with carrot puree to provide a depth of flavour.

Every course was excellent, the service was high quality and the ambience was great.

Restaurant: still good food as in the last years, but the waiter, when asked about 3 fish dishes shown on the fish menu, talked us into another fish that was outside of that menu and more expensive, without letting us know in advance of the price. We went for his advice but were surprised with the bill after. So an advice: watch the menu exactly when ordering. The cocktail we ordered was almost as good as the last year, but now on a simplified “formula”. Spa: still good as before, although not all masseuses are exceptionally good really. Problems with lockers, the swimming pool that is slightly run down, and other minor issues. But ok in general. My general view, not as great as it used...

Excellent dishes except the desert. Very good deal for 44€ menu for 3 courses. I wish I could come back again. Very beautiful decoration and fast service. My girl and I didn’t finish the desert of waffle which was cold and hard. They should have at least warm it up. My husband and I ordered 3 glasses of wine to go with dishes, but the waiter only ordered 2 glasses in total for us. After first dish, we informed another waiter about this. She didn’t understand as well and just brought us 2 glasses in total. Too bad…they need to...
