Auberge du Prieuré Normand — Restaurant in Les Andelys

כואב לי לכתוב ביקורת שכזו על מסעדה אולם יש פעמים שאתה מרגיש חייב לכתוב זאת תחילה כדי להזהיר אחרים וגם כדי שבעל המסעדה ישים לה למה שקורה בתוך המסעדה ולא רק במטבח עצמו. הגענו שני זוגות , לא דוברי צרפתית. וכאן כפי שהבנתם הבעיה מתחילה. לו היה רק יחס מתנשא מצד המלצר אז דיינו אולם נתקלנו בבוז וגסות רוח מצידו. כל זאת משום שרק שאלנו באם יש תפריט בצרפתית וכשניסינו לקבל ממנו קצת הסבר על מנה כלשהיא או יין או פשוט סובב את הגב. נחרות הבוז שלו היו כה קולניות שחשבנו לעזוב. אולם נשותנו לא רצו במהומה ונשארנו ונעזרנו בדוקטור גוגל. לפחות היינו מצפים כי המנות יהיו בהתאם לגבהות הלב של המלצר אולם גם פה לא היה להם מה לחגוג. המנה העיקרית שלנו סטייק עם ציר ירקות. ציר הירקות היה מעולה אולם הסטייק עצמו היה ברמה בינונית ומטה. אנו אוכלי בשר ובינים משהו בבשר, בשר צמיגי לא רך ונימוח כפי שמצופה ממסעדה ברמה שכזו. הקינוח היה סתמי ביותר. הגבינה הלבנה שהוגשה בתחילה הייתה טעימה. בסך הכל חוויה לא נעימה ואוכל בינוני. It hurts me to write such a critique of a restaurant but there are times when you feel obliged to write it first to warn others especially innocent tourist that can fall into such place, and also that the owner of the restaurant will know what is happening inside the restaurant and not just in the kitchen itself. We were two couples, not French speakers. And here, as you understood, the problem begins. If there was only a condescending attitude on the part of the waiter then we would have had enough, but we encountered contempt and rudeness on his part. All this because we only asked if there was a menu in French and when we tried to get some explanation about a dish or wine or just turn the back. His snores were so loud that we thought we'd leave. But our wives did not want the commotion and we stayed and were assisted by a Google doctor. At least we would expect the dishes to be superb in keeping with the waiter's high spirits, but here too they had nothing to celebrate. Our main course is steak with vegetable gravy. The vegetable gravy was excellent but the steak itself was of medium level and below. the meat was a viscous unchewy meat that is not as soft and smooth as one would expect from a restaurant of this level. Lovely restaurant not far from Giverny and nature forests. Not formal but you can dress up if you want, or be casual, both works here.

Quality of meal was high, food was utterly delicious and of the best standard of our trip to the region. Not too much available on menu for gluten allergy (similar to many places really), but adaptations made (one of the few places which did). Well assembled dishes, fresh and local/French ingredients, freshly prepared and cooked. Perfect steak (saignant). Generous portion sizes, served hot with hot plates so stayed hot whilst eating.

I recently had the pleasure of enjoying lunch at Auberge du Prieuré Normand in Gasny, and it was an unforgettable culinary experience. The local French cuisine, reimagined with advanced techniques, was simply outstanding. Every dish was a remarkable blend of tradition and innovation.
