La Bufala — Restaurant in Lisieux

Really wanted to like this place. We made a reservation for 8 and had no problems on arrival. The waitress was a little brusque while we ordered. Food was mostly good - their pizzas were excellent. The buffalo mozzarella appetizer was a bit odd though (serving it on a bed of chopped, mildly wilted warm ice berg lettuce was not very appetizing). The problem came when we tried to pay. We asked for the check and then waited 10 minutes. We sent the kids out of the restaurant and then went to the front to pay. We were then ignored for another 10 minutes while the owner folded pizza boxes (?). The young man clearing tables sort of bumped us out of the way so he could put glasses on the bar and also didn’t acknowledge us. It wasn’t until a French family, who were also waiting, said something that we finally got help. Definitely left with a sour taste in my mouth. We visited this place as a group of 8 without a reservation. Waiting stuff seemed grumpy and visibly annoyed, especially when our French wasn't perfect, despite our best efforts.

The service was subpar right from the start. They only brought 7 drinks for our group, and when we requested the missing drink, we had to walk up to the bar ourselves. After waiting another 20 minutes without any assistance, we had to ask again. Again the young lady waiter seemed upset and annoyed…

Paying the bill was another hassle. We had to go to the bar where we were ignored for 10 minutes. During this time, we were pushed around and met with annoyed faces from the staff. There were no smiles or any effort to make us feel welcome.

Sadly though, the two waitresses were just miserable. We had been polite and ordered in pigeon french as much as we could manage. We were left unclear what, if anything, we might have done to upset them. Both waitresses were sour faced, in a way that it was clear they were deliberately being unpleasant. If my command of the language had been better, I'd have had a word with them at the end of the meal and asked what their problem was.

There was zero attention during the meal. We had to wait a long time for the bill, even when we were the last people there. They were plain rude
