Lets start with the good bits. The location is superb, in a forest in the Franche Comte region of France - a little known area that should be much more widely known for touring. The building is clean and well maintained and most of the rooms are in a new block to the rear, which is in excellant order, even if the rooms are a little bit small.||||There's a good restaurant - I suspect it is really a restaurant that has added rooms, rather than being originally a hotel.||||The bad bits: The owner and the staff. We were in a group of 4 couples and arrived at slightly different times. We were the last to arrive. The chap who we took to be the owner was at reception when we arrived. It was a good 5 minutes before he looked up from his diary to acknowledge us - he knew we were standing there as we had been talking to our friends as we walked through the door. Then he just beckoned us with a waved finger to follow him to our room.. ||||While the restaurant food was good, I felt that the staff were greatly inconvenienced by us being there. And breakfast the next morning was like something out of Fawlty Towers. No milk for the cereals (eventually fetched from the kitched with a shrug), bread provided 3 slices at a time, but only when asked for - this was for around 12 people in the restaurant at the time. And one of the group was asked to move the car 3 inches to one side for reasons we didn't understand. Another Basil Fawlty moment.||||Checkout was then done with a shrug and some muttering in French - the bill just being pushed towards us.. Obviously, he must have assummed being English I didn't understand. ||||A great disappointment and very different to our experience with every oher hotel...
Read moreMy husband and I have been staying at this hotel for one night on our way to Switzerland for 30 years now and we have seen a great amount of change over the years. It is fair to say that the owners have spent a lot of money upgrading the rooms and, although they are a bit on the small side, they are well appointed and have everything you would need for a short stay. During the week you will find quite a few business travellers staying here so you can expect really fast WiFi, so rare in other hotels of this category. ||As the hotel is located up a little mountain road, but just 8 minutes from the centre of Ronchamp, it is very quiet at night so you will sleep really well!||The aspect of the place that brings us back is the food in the restaurant which we have always found to be excellent and very good value for money. You must try the Coquilles St Jacques Amoureux, they are fabulous. They have an extensive wine list too with wines to suit every palette and wallet. There are always plenty of local people in the restaurant, especially at the week end which is always a good sign.||Breakfast has improved too with plenty of bread and croissants and you don't have to call someone to replenish the bread basket anymore!!!!!||One thing you will not get at this hotel is a warm welcome when you arrive or any 'polite conversation' with the owners unless you persevere yourself. This time we arrived just at the start of dinner service and we were asked from the restaurant to help ourselves to the key from behind the reception desk! We find this sort of thing quirky and amusing, part of the character of the hotel. We love it and we will always be happy to...
