It’s hard to know where to begin. The service was fine. Not outstanding. Not awful. Just fine. My largest gripe was that our server toward the end of the evening ended up having an incredibly long conversation with a table in the corner of the dining room with her back turned to the rest of the room so it was impossible to get her attention without approaching her directly. This went on for at least 15 minutes when we desperately just wanted to get the bill and leave.
While their wine selection is good (as is in most, if not all restaurants in the region), their food was deeply lackluster. After a few days spent traveling around Burgundy and Beaujolais, tasting and experiencing everything from haute cuisine to honest provincial fare, we were wildly disappointed with what felt like loveless, lazy dishes. They give off the impression that they change their menu seasonally and regularly, but after scraping through other reviews it’s become apparent that they haven’t really changed their menu much in the last 5, 6, 7 years — something that’s crazy to me considering what incredible produce and suppliers they have access to. Their tandoori beef tartare was frankly offensive and they lazily resort to garnishing everything with roughly chopped raw red onions. Their pâté was also a disappointment with ultra dense puff pastry — dry and tough.
Don’t waste your time or money. We had a wonderful experience at Le Coq à Juliénas. Go...
On a faim!!!
Read moreThe restaurant is a bit "quirky" inside, but also very innovative with the use of various items to aid your eating experience. We all enjoyed our various selections, and when we couldn't eat all of a couple of the dishes we were provided with containers to so that we could take it away and enjoy it again later :-). Quality cooking at a very affordable price. The blackboard menu changes regularly, and although not huge, should provide some tempting items for most tastes. Great...
