We were driving from Bayeux to Charles De Gaulle and wanted a last good meal in France. After looking at options in various towns along the route I lucked out and landed on this lovely spot. Based on the good reviews we decided to give it a whirl. What a stroke of fortune! I emailed ( in French using an app) to see about a reservation but got a prompt reply saying we needed to call. My husband’s French is decent so we called and reserved a table. We were warmly welcomed to a very local place where a number of couples and groups were dining. The restaurant has been in the same family since 1927 and the love and tradition show. The menus were in French only but contained nothing we found difficult to understand. The food was creative but not precious, fresh, and delicious. I started with a salmon rillette with an herb mousse that was garnished with tiny edible flowers. We both had sole meunière, which was perfectly prepared, and a lovely Chablis. And while we’re not usually dessert people, the special of the day was a chocolate mousse that appealed so we ordered it. Surprise — the dark chocolate mousse was atop warm chocolate cake. To die for. If you’re driving to Normandy, or doing a day trip to Giverny, do yourself a favor and make a stop at Au Bon Accueil. We hope to return.

We drove from Paris to Bayeux. Once out of Paris and settled in, we began thinking about lunch, While the autoroute had rest areas called "Aire de Service d'Autoroute" with McDonalds, that wasn't what I had in mind for lunch. I had envisioned a leisurely drive through the French countryside but found myself on a busy highway. So I took the next exit from A13 for Évreux and simply chose a direction, left. We came across Au Bon Accueil. That was just what we were looking for. No one spoke English and my Google Translate app struggled with the menu. Finally the waiter realized that we were having trouble and began to bring out prepared plates for us to choose from! It was the best meal we had in France - 63€. We rolled back into the car and proceeded to Bayeux.

Cuisine gastronomique traditionnelle.
