La Taverne des Grottes — Restaurant in Mayenne

We had a pizza slice for starters and both a different main dish. The pizza wasn't good but OK. Both our main dishes were horrible, it most definitely wasn't fresh. The waitress saw we stopped eating after a few bites and knew we were finished, so i think a lot of other people shared our experience. The other people dining there also didn't look pleased. The waitresses were all really nice and communication was good even though we don't speak a lot of French. An excellent restaurant in a stunning location. We called by accident but stayed for coffee and crepes. Today we returned for Le menu. Four courses starting with entrees, and a great selection. Veal for both of us which was superb. A good cheese board was followed by a fig tart and coffee. Plenty of bread with the meal and a cool bottle of water on a warm day hit the spot. We first visited last weekend and had coffee and crêpes. Today we went back for lunch. The menu is a four course set meal with buffet starter, 3 choices of main course, help yourself cheese plate and deserts to choose from the display fridge. Lovely friendly staff, food was amazing and eaten sat outside in the sunshine. Great value for money....
