Le Conti — Restaurant in Mayenne

I'd love to say this was an excellent dining experience, having Googled the reviews I was really looking forward to some authentic French food.

Upon arrival at the tables set outside I checked with the waiter by pointing to my dog to ensure it was acceptable for to sit with me. I was given the nod OK so seated myself outside.

My hungry backside had hardly touched the plastic seat when a surly looking grey haired gentleman came directly to me speaking in French. I politely explained that I don't speak French (poor school descision upon reflection). This gentleman replied in rather excellent English that he does not speak English and continued in his surly manner speaking to me in French.

Unfortunately I had no idea what he was saying so in a rather bemused manner nodded agreement. Who wants to enflame a situation when all you're hoping to get is feed...anyway... Mr Grey haired angrypants stalked off back inside the restaurant. I'm thinking he may have been the owner but at that stage I felt awkward and embarrassed so left with aforementioned dog.

So please Mr Grey haired angrypants, please be aware that rudeness translates across any language divide and you had no reason whatsoever to speak to a potential customer in the manner you did.

I'd also like to take the chance to highly recommend the burger place round the corner where the staff where helpful and patient with my attempt to communicate in primary school level French. You can even sit in the beautiful seating area without having to deal with surly grey...

De passage pour découvrir cette ville, nous avons décidé avec ma compagne de faire une halte au Conti qui nous paraissait correct. En entrant dans les lieux, nous avons été accueilli par un jeune homme très agréable. On s'est installé et la tout commence avec un serveur d'une cinquantaine d'année antipathique au possible, qui vient à notre table sans dire bonjour, même pas un sourire et nous pose une carafe d'eau (au goût peu agréable) et nous laisse une carte des menus sans preter attention, même pas un mot sympathique. Nous commandons une salade césar chacun, (juste pour info je suis restaurateur dans une autre région et je fais des salades composées à thème), donc notre salade arrive, qui était soit disant copieuse. Commençons par la qualité, salade carton pate, tomate au goût de flotte, crouton même pas maison, oeufs qui proviennent sans aucun doute d'un bocal saumuré sans goût et sans texture, le poulet pané complètement industriel et la sauce la c'est carrément un sketche aucun goût, quantité dérisoire. Pour ce qui est de la quantité dans l'assiette je suis d'accord c'est copieux pour un enfant de 10 ans et tout ça pour 14.90 euros, bon je vais être direct c'est du vol, en tant que restaurateur tout mes produits son frais et cuisiné du jour pour le même prix avec des ingrédients noble et pour le coup vraiment copieux, voilà le genre de restaurant qui donne plus envie aux gens de manger dans les restaurants et il faut arrêter de mettre ça sur le dos des produits ou de l'énergie qui seraient devenu plus coûteux, être restaurateur c'est un métier ou il faut bosser et arrêter de mentir et de vendre de la merde à des gens qui payent. Restaurant qui pourrait être bien avec des produits de meilleur qualité et en dégageant ce serveur pitoyable (et si c'était le patron qu'il change rapidement de vocation), qui en tant que patron aurait été viré...

I and my colleagues went often to this restaurant because it has good food for good prices (especially, the menu of the day). We were pleasantly surprised by the overly friendly staff, the good atmosphere and the quickness of the servings. One time, unfortunately, we arrived late at the restaurant and there were no menu of the day left. At that moment we wanted to leave, but they asked us to stay and improvise on it. This restaurant left us deeply impressed. I want to say thank you for the amazing service and I hope to pass here again sometime...
