We had dinner here on a Sunday night with our three teenage kids. |The venue is just brilliant and we loved it. |The service was very friendly but just not attentive. There were only a few tables of customers, the restaurant was not full. |But we sat in the middle table for 20 minutes before we were even asked if we wanted a drink. |The appetizer was delivered and still we weren't offered water. |The two main serving staff were in training and were extremely nervous. They were fine though, but just weren't well lead or trained yet. No eye contact with customers. They walked past our table a dozen times without noticing we were sitting there still completely unattended to. |Perhaps it was because we spoke only English and they weren't comfortable speaking to us. Who knows. ||Anyway the food was very nice. The salmon entre the best pick of entre and the suckling pig also excellent. ||We had the soup entre and that was interesting and tasty. The carpaccio had a strong Dijon mayonnaise (or something like that) which overpowered the meat flavour. The duck and chicken were very good. ||Deserts were all tasty and our son loved the hazelnut chocolate especially. ||The wine well I have to say I didn't like it at all but I am struggling to find any French wine to rave about so perhaps it is my pallet. ||Overall it was a good experience but I certainly wouldn't...

Read moreThis is the best restaurant in the South West of France, a big statement but no arguments will sway me otherwise! For location, ambience, service and quality of food a 5 star award is a given. Not just the restaurant, which I will revert to, the village of Eugenie Les Baines is beautiful and well worth a wander around before or after lunch. Back to the restaurant, Thrush Farm as it’s called in English is simply idillic. Akin to a great old English pub with stone and oak beams everywhere this is the type of venue I feel most at home with. The customer service is par excellence and probably not a coincidence with the connection to Michel Guerard’s excellent hotel just a short walk down the road. Some of the most enjoyable lunchtimes I’ve experienced in France put aside a few hours and immerse yourself in some...
