La Charrue — Restaurant in Nontron

I have just returned from a magical 12 days staying in the studio gite at La Charrue, solo! Pauline, Clive and friends who run La Charrue are perfect hosts, made me feel like family as soon as I arrived with a warm welcome. The gite was really comfortable with everything you needed for a self catering holiday. The pool, restaurant and grounds are peaceful, pretty and very relaxing. If you gather your energy, one of the music nights at La Charrue, with delicious fish and chips, is a great way to make new friends, or sit and enjoy the live music on a sultry summers evening. ||La Charrue was a perfect base from which to travel around the stunning area; beautiful Brantome with canoeing on the river, it's Abbey and lively cafés, or one of the medieval towns. Further a field Sarlat, Domme and Beynac are a must see, take the Gabare ( old river barge) for a relaxing hour down the Dordogne, or climb up to the chateau at the top of Beynac's steep hill. You can also while away pleasant hours in Perigneux, Bordeaux or Bergerac, take time over lunch in one of the restaurants overlooking the lively squares before hitting the shops!||On your return from your days out, relax by the pool or the terrace at La Charrue, solo, couple or family, you'll come home with a little...

We have been coming here for a few years now and each time bring friends here that appreciate a small friendly camping area that feels like home from home with a very warm welcome from Pauline and Clive. The reason I have posted this time as I have never done so before is because of the negative comments made by an individual. It is interesting to note that he makes negative comments about his stay at la Charrue during July of this year, what I find difficult to understand is that I have been here since the end of June with the said friends and have talked to every camper on our small sight which would have been less than a dozen people and he was not one of them so I can only presume he hasn't been here. There are about six placements and we have a beautiful shower block with two showers and toilets a very nice swimming pool with loungers and chairs in the shade too. We often eat here as the food is lovely and reasonable and during the summer there is some really great music evenings. This is the forth year we have been here and the six friends we came with this time also came last year so there must be something that...

Well, what can I say! You will not find anywhere else like this, mainly due to the character and personality of Pauline who is the front of La Charrue, she is very welcoming! There is camping available here with good facilities. Also on offer, self catering apartments as well as B & B. Reasonably priced menu which includes all day breakfast, Steak Frites, pizza, BLT, omelettes,coffee, & a range of excellent burgers . Outdoor eating when the weather is good but there is also an indoor restaurant. Through the main holiday season there is a very popular Friday Fish & Chip night. Also some very enjoyable music nights for which you need to book.There is a play area for children, a swimming pool for residents and lovely local walks. The current owners have built up La Charrue to suit a very happy English community but local french are often intrigued to sample what is offered here. There is also an English bowling green .
