The Auberge du Lac is an absolutely wonderful place to stay and we cannot speak highly enough of it. ||We spent five weeks driving around France earlier this year (our third visit to France), and our two night stay here was one of the highlights of our visit. We were made so welcome by Philippe, Marie and their little daughter, Léa, and having arrived on election day the bar was alive and humming with locals in lively conversation about the election results. We considered ourselves so lucky to have been caught up in the atmosphere of it all. ||I have Coeliac Disease and having emailed ahead, Philippe had this under control. He prepared amazing meals, ensuring that the food he cooked for me was not only gluten free, it was also incredibly delicious! (I even attempted to make two of the recipes myself for a recent dinner party.) I cannot thank him enough for his efforts.||Marie and Léa looked after us for our breakfast. I must add that I do always travel with gluten free bread, but my husband enjoyed a lovely selection of bread and croissant for his breakfast and we both enjoyed the jams and tea and coffee also. ||A huge thanks to Marie for providing us with a wonderful itinerary for a day out and about, travelling to Aubrac – Laguiole – Estaing – Sainte-Com d’Olt||The rooms at the Auberge du Lac are located upstairs and are large, clean and modern, and would put a lot of four and five star properties to shame.||There is a balcony off the restaurant downstairs and the views from here are simply spectacular, unforunately it wasn't quite warm enough when we visited for us to sit out there for any time.||An absolute gem located in an area that I can only describe the scenery as picture post card/story book/ fairy tale!||We will return -...

Read moreReview for the restaurant only, we weren’t staying here. We had a delicious lunch, the best we’ve had 2 weeks into our 4 week vacation in France so far, which is saying a lot! We’ve had some great meals. My husband had a special a beef stew wrapped in a pastry. The young beef (veal?) was from a woman run farm just 2 kilometers away. I had a hamburger with a sauce, a great bun, tomato and bacon. We both had the local specialty potato cheese dish and a side salad. Every bite was perfection. We each had a local beer, which was cool and crisp. The waitress/co owner was a delight, explaining in English the dishes and where locally the ingredients were from. The other staff were efficient and kind. For desert we had the melon which was grown very locally and the best cantaloupe we’ve ever had, even better than the ones our childhood families grew (sorry Grandpa). The view from the terrace is beautiful. I highly...
