An exceptional restaurant. We arrived un-planned on a hot summer afternoon, were made to feel very welcome and sat in the shade. We had to wait a little while for a table but they were clearly very popular and the patrons currently eating were relaxed and enjoying their food at leisure. And with good reason! The atmosphere is lovely, outside under shades and umbrellas with a very gentle breeze - perfect summer dining. And the food was excellent. The menu was not overly complicated but making a choice was still not easy. Classic French cuisine, superbly prepared; the salmon was tender and had that "stickiness" that comes from being cooked just right, the balance of saffron and salt in the risotto was delicate; the veal was beautifully cooked and well-balanced by the jus. The wine recommendation to accompany this was charismatic and perfect. The crème brulées were the best we've ever had, crisp and sweet accompanied by tart fresh raspberries. And the service and welcome were excellent! We'd stopped in because we were passing through and looking for somewhere for lunch, but I would make a booking and a detour to visit this restaurant if I was anywhere...
Read moreWe enjoyed a wonderful lunch in this lovely historic town. The building housing the restaurant is old and lovingly restored. We were here to celebrate a family event, and the room (upstairs) easily accommodated our group of 17 (+ a three year old and an infant, who were treated very warmly by the staff). Lunch was a prix-fixe menu with a choice of two appetizers and two entrees, and among us, we tried everything. All was superb. The wine list had many options, and with the help of the waitress, we settled on a white and red choice that were ideal for us. I started with a seafood roll (“cannelloni”) with crab and avocado, then a steak. Both were delicious, as was the desert (in my case, a fruit sorbet with hints of basil and done raspberries — delicious, but they also offered a moilleuse au chocolate pastry that was a big hit with others at the table).
L’Auverge Bucheoise isn’t especially fancy by French standards, but it certainly is authentic, the fishes were all creative and well executed, adding up to a really enjoyable lunch. We highly...
