La Goulue — Restaurant in Saint-Girons

We stayed for three nights in La Goulue, myself, husband and 2 children (age 11 and 12). The owners were very warm, polite and very helpful in settling us in. We loved the way they had converted this old Casino, lots of wood, and a minimal and fresh style. ||The food was excellent - e.g. stuffed trout, very good cheese flan, baked pears, and delicious home made jams for breakfast (however, we would have welcomed yoghourt, fruit and cereal for breakfast as well as the tartine). The down side, was that there were no kitchen facilities for guests, although they were very open to us using their fridge for beers, wine etc. plus the benches in the dining room - did put a bit of a strain on my back one evening. Lastly our bed was not comfortable - creaky and like a board. However, the stunning views of the mountains, the lovely church nearby and the extremely high standards of cleanliness made up for this. La Goulue est le Gite le plus bon de GR10. Toute la maison est tres propre est le repas etait superbe. Il y a chambres, pas dortoir et le proprietre est tres gentil. En anglais: We really enjoyed this Gite and the dinner was really excellent. We appreciated the fresh produce, the flavours and the presentation. The rooms are simple but very clean and the beds comfortable. I have read a poor review and cannot understand what the writer expected - if he wanted a luxury hotel, he should pay accordingly!
