Our experience at this dining establishment was truly awful. A perfect trifecta: lousy waitstaff, no interest in the customer experience, capped by terrible food. While our good friends were touring Watches & Wonders in Geneva, my wife and I took the Telepherique du Saleve up the mountain to get some fresh air on a lovely spring Sunday (April 14, 2024). We decided to stop for lunch at LâObservatoire and sat outside on the front deck.
It was difficult to secure a table since so many people wanted to have a drink and eat there, but unluckily we did finally get one. No one at the restaurant was assigning tables, you just had to grab one as someone stood to leave. Many people eventually left without dining since the wait staff was short-handed and showed no ability to manage the flow of patrons. We watched at least 6-7 groups of people sit at a table, never get served, and simply get up and leave. It took us about a half hour to get any attention and the employees were frenzied and showed no interest in our experience.
They failed to bring our drink orders before or with the food, so my wife and I drank out of our hiking water bottles. The tables were not getting cleaned off after the patrons left, so bottles kept blowing off the tables in the breeze and breaking on the deck. None of the glass was ever cleaned up for the nearly two hours we were there. More than once the waiters and waitresses stepped over the broken glass and never returned to clean it up. Twice I warned ladies with their dogs not to approach the tables near us since there was broken glass on the ground everywhere. Since the servers never came back to our table after our food was delivered, I had to intercept a busy employee near the front door to pay the bill. On top of this all, my wife got food poisoning that night and was miserable all-day Monday. This was honestly our worst meal (âdiningâ is far too elegant a word for this place) experience while traveling globally in over a decade. I would never go to this restaurant again, and I believe the health inspector should visit there more often. La rĂ©alitĂ© sâest rĂ©vĂ©lĂ©e bien diffĂ©rente et marquĂ©e par un service chaotique et un manque de professionnalisme flagrant. Il semble que les bons avis concernent principalement le lieu et la vue, plutĂŽt que le restaurant lui-mĂȘme.
DĂšs notre arrivĂ©e vers 15h, simplement pour boire un verre, des clients nous ont avertis quâil fallait revenir dans une demi-heure, car lâĂ©quipe nâĂ©tait pas capable de gĂ©rer le service, bien que le restaurant propose un service continu. AprĂšs 30 minutes Ă attendre dehors par 5 degrĂ©s, on nous indique que la terrasse extĂ©rieure est la seule option disponible pour boire un verre. Ă lâintĂ©rieur, des tables sales et non dĂ©barrassĂ©es sâaccumulent, tandis que lâĂ©quipe semble dĂ©bordĂ©e sans raison apparente.
Je fais la queue pour demander si lâon peut commander directement au comptoir. La rĂ©ponse est non, il faut attendre dehors quâun serveur vienne. AprĂšs 20 minutes de plus, un serveur arrive et prend les commandes avec un calepin, sans numĂ©roter les tables et sans mĂȘme utiliser un systĂšme moderne de gestion. Chaque commande est notĂ©e sur une feuille individuelle, et le serveur retourne Ă chaque fois Ă lâintĂ©rieur pour la passer.
Nous commandons quatre biĂšres, pensant que cela irait rapidement. Pourtant, aprĂšs 30 minutes dâattente supplĂ©mentaire, je vais payer dâavance pour accĂ©lĂ©rer le processus, constatant une file dâattente qui sâallonge. Au comptoir, on accepte le paiement sans problĂšme, mais je dĂ©couvre que notre bon de commande nâa mĂȘme pas Ă©tĂ© transmis. Le bar est un vĂ©ritable chaos, avec des plateaux et des assiettes qui sâaccumulent sans ĂȘtre pris en charge. Un serveur semble hĂ©sitant Ă savoir quoi faire et finit par ne rien prendre dâutile. Pendant ce temps, des personnes Ă cĂŽtĂ© de nous, qui avaient commandĂ© quatre cafĂ©s, ont fini par quitter les lieux aprĂšs 30 minutes sans avoir Ă©tĂ© servis.
Retour Ă lâextĂ©rieur, oĂč le froid est toujours aussi mordant et oĂč les barmans se mette Ă ramener des commandes fantĂŽmes car les clients, lassĂ©s, ont quittĂ© les lieux. Le barman mâassure que la commande arrivera dans 5 minutes (la rĂ©alitĂ© sera toute autre). Il nous demande dâattendre dehors et de rentrer avec les verres lorsquâils seront servis, faute de quoi il ne saura pas oĂč nous trouver. Quand les biĂšres arrivent enfin, elles sont remplies aux trois quarts, laissant une impression de service baclĂ©. La table nâavait pas Ă©tĂ© nettoyĂ©e, et jâai dĂ» apporter moi-mĂȘme le plateau.    Read moreI go every time I hike up the Saleve. Their drinks are fine and the burgers are fine. Over time service has gotten worse and worse. Yesterday we left after a 25 minute wait to take our orders. I asked 2 people if we could order. Both said it's not their job and to ask someone else. None of the other waitstaff could be caught. I was literally waving my arms by the end. In the middle of the inside section. As everyone ran around doing nothing.
Only 1 man who was in the glass window section seemed competent. He was overwhelmed doing everything in the busiest section of the restaurant. The many other employees spent a lot of time walking back and forth as if in a rush, being comically inefficient.
