The restaurant had a lovely atmosphere, and a lovely old building with lots of character. The staff were very friendly and attentive. The kids menu has a very generous portion size and the sausages were very tasty. The wine and cider we had was very very good, and there is a huge selection of drinks, including cocktails. The bread that we had at the start of the meal was delicious and really fresh. My husband ordered a steak and he really enjoyed it. I ordered a chicken fillet burger, with salad and chips (frites) and I was a little disappointed that the chicken fillet burger was spongy, processed chicken in breadcrumbs, and not an actual fresh chicken fillet, seasoned and barbecued. The chips (frites) were very over cooked (dark brown) and greasy. They would be much tastier, cooked in clean cooking oil, for a shorter time. We ate the chips (frites) because we were very hungry, but they could have been better. The salad that I had with my meal was very fresh and nicely dressed and I enjoyed it. The kids ice cream was really nice, and the kids chocolate crepes were also delicious. My husband had the honey rice for dessert and he thought it was delicious. I had the Normandy apple tart and it was also delicious. The sweet cider that I had with my meal was so nice that I bought a bottle to take away. Overall, it was a nice meal, but I was just a bit disappointed about the chips (frites) and the...

Thank you for your response I now comment :-

  1. who takes a 7 o’clock table booking and expects clients to wait in cold for 10 mins
  2. what staff , unlock a front door and do not open the door to welcom customers in. He just walk away . How rude ! Particularly when clients seen by staff were waiting outside and seen by the manager ?
  3. No staff were eating at 7 o’clock when table was booked for . No apology for late opening or making us wait
  4. why did no one ask us if we needed anything else once meal served and check meal was ok . We went to front desk 3 times to ask for service !
  5. we eat all over the world and your service was not good. Rather than make excuses which were not true or valid . Learn and train your staff that’s what...

Pros: excellent food. Local produce. Plenty on the plate. Lovely ice creams. Friendly waiters and waitresses. Cons: the owner who can’t manage his anger and treats staff and clients appallingly. He told one of his clients to leave (‘get out of my pub’ said Peggy lol). One waitress was upset. The atmosphere was tensed and a lack of apology from the owner. Leading by example is not his thing. Training in customer service and staff management with potentially a wee one in anger management is recommended. —————- Photo: showing the response of the owner before he removed it. Proved my point.

A wonderful evening in a beautiful restaurant and location. Such a pleasure to see a full restaurant of local people despite its rural location - always a good sign. I found that I had misjudged how much I wanted my pavé de bœuf cooked and found à point was just too much. This is because it is cooked on the wood fire grill. They very kindly changed it for me to saignant. Next time I may even go bleu! Very grateful to Chef. The apple sorbet with calvados was absolutely fabulous and nearly knocked my head off! Glad to have shared it with my partner! Merci beaucoup à tous.

This visit was a special treat for my daughter and granddaughter visiting from the UK. They had a burger each which they very much enjoyed and I had three lamb chops. I had asked for medium, but they were really well done which was a shame for me, but apart from that we had a very pleasant time. I’m hoping to visit again with my husband, dependent upon his health as it is an hours run from our home. Thank you to you all.
