Le château de sable — Restaurant in Saint-Malo

This is a highly underrated place that the pictures of burgers and fries don't do justice. From the outside it could be mistaken for a low-key village eatery but inside you'll find something very special. A mouth watering menu of locally sourced delights with some delicious twists that made for one of the highlights of our trip. The Thai curry with toasted prawns and monkfish was full of flavour and spice. Someone else on our table enjoyed a parcel of baked sausage and others chose roast duck. All of us had a fantastic meal. The avocado foam for dessert shouldn't be missed too. How they manage all this with so few staff and so little fuss, creating a relaxed and sociable atmosphere is a mystery. Très bon bistrot de mer. Accueil charmant, aimable , sans chichis ni familiarité. Excellent ! Venus déjeuner à deux avant la plage, nous avons partagé une très bonne terrine , copieuse, joliment présentée et goûteuse. Plats: Fish & Chips, belle portion , friture très légère, poisson bien frais. Extra! En dessert, une grande verrine sablé, pommes, caramel au beurre salé, chantilly: très bien. Le dessert a également été partagé. 1 bouteille de vin blanc HautMarin ,2 cafés. 80€ en tout. Nous avons trouvé l’endroit différent de ce qu’il était auparavant, mais très agréable aussi. La musique était un peu trop forte, et j’aurais tendance à la préférer un peu plus kitsch…ou lounge. Pour tous ceux qui fréquentaient cet établissement jusqu’à l’an dernier, les nouveaux propriétaires l’ont rafraichi et egayé avec goût, simplicité, confort, sans le transformer complètement. J’y vois une continuité de très bon aloi. Mis à part la musique, j’ai une seconde suggestion : un plat de moules serait bienvenu, elles avaient beaucoup de succès jusqu’à l’an dernier.
