This is not a hotel. It is a motel. As such, all of the doors face onto the car park, so if you’re concerned about security or putting children in one room with adults in the other, you might want to think again. The doors need a good shove to close properly; there’s no chain for the door. The room smelled terrible; the bathroom smelled like someone had recently been smoking cigarettes in it. ||||The receptionist was wearing an upside down name tag (wtf?) that indicated she speaks English. She doesn’t. We booked a room on their website for two adults and one child, and even indicated that the child is 15 years old. When we arrived late in the evening, the receptionist directed us to a room with one double bed. Upon enquiring, we were told that the rooms were unsuitable for more than two people, and it’s “just a child” as if he doesn’t deserve a bed! Upon further pressure, we were taken to a storage cupboard where an old folding cot bed was given to us; we had to pressure for sheets, a duvet, then a pillow… and oh yes, even towels. They were handed to us unceremoniously and we had to make up the bed ourselves. Not a difficult task, but the attitude was that we were hassling them. Why give the option to have a child on the booking (including their age) if you can’t accommodate them? This 15 year old 6’ tall teenager is definitely not sharing a double bed with us!||||The room itself is lit with blue, clinical lighting that makes you feel like you’re spending the night in a discount store or A&E. The bin in our bathroom hadn’t been emptied and the previous occupant had filled it. ||||No air conditioning. Rooms on the ground floor (see above about it being a motel not a hotel) so no way to open a window to get air. If you’re menopausal, forget it or hire a vacuum that you can scream into when you’re sweating in a bed all night in a room that smells like ass. ||||The walls are paper thin. We could hear every word of the conversations of the people next door. ||||All in all, after a 12 hour drive from Italy it was not a relaxing experience to arrive here. We were glad to leave. Not sure why so many people have given it such positive reviews: have we stepped into a wrinkle in the space...
Read moreQuite possibly the worst hotel we have ever stayed in over 40 years of travelling, which was my fault for not researching properly (that’s a first). It seemed like an ideal stopover point returning from Switzerland before the Eurotunnel departure the next day. On entering the room if I wasn’t so tired, we’d have left and found somewhere else, but were just out of steam and time.||The tired décor I can live with, but the main curtains did not close, the spider webs said no cleaning had been done for some time, the light shade was broken and it smelt musty. We had to drape a blanket over the curtain rail for some privacy.||The shower screen did not reach the edge of the bath, there was mould in the sealant and the plughole did not drain properly so we were paddling in whatever was in the drain. ||If I felt we could have changed to a better room I’d have tried, but thought they’d all be the same. Also, no English was spoken on check-in, and I didn’t think our rudimentary French would cut it. ||The restaurant was ok, with a nice steak and Bordeaux. Breakfast the next morning had a strange atmosphere, with the lady in charge stood, arms crossed watching over it all. We could not wait to leave.||It’s the same group, Logis, as Le Val Moret we stayed in on the outward leg, but could not be further removed if they tried. Avoid at...
