Bistro Le Passage — Restaurant in Sarlat-la-Canéda

We visited on our bike ride today. Very grumpy service, and when we went to pay the card machine didn’t work, it was the connection not our cards, used an English card and 2 French cards, there’s definitely funds in the accounts, the woman was very very rude and made us feel like criminals! I offered name address and telephone numbers but she was insisting on payment! There’s no ATM in Tortoirac! It was her attitude that was so upsetting, I realise she needs her money. We assured her we were going to return immediately but she insisted on keeping my driving licence and holding us to ransome, I understand her issues but her attitude was diabolical! I was nearly in tears with embarrassment and frustration, it was €45 She didn’t even tell the staff, so when my husband returned within the hour, he had to explain that we wanted the licence back and tell them how much we owed, the girl didn’t have a clue! A group of 9 of us booked for 7pm… at 7.25 we were still waiting to place a drinks order; I approached a member of staff and asked if we could order drinks and get food menus. Ten minutes later a member of staff took our drinks order but we had to ask again for food menus. Drinks arrived about 20 minutes later when we again asked for menus which arrived another 10 minutes later. A server took our food order 20 minutes later and the food arrived 45 minutes later. Mediocre food, over priced, served an hour and 45mins after we arrived by a rude waitress.

The restaurant was busy and the staff were clearly stretched but the rudeness was unnecessary. We were told to empty the first little pot of ketchup (between eight) before asking for another (after which the waitress disappeared for 20mins and couldn't be asked for another), patronised about keeping the freezer shut while taking an ice lolly from the freezer for the children's dessert, kept waiting standing at the counter for ten minutes to pay the bill... stay in instead, you'll have...
