Auberge du Lac — Restaurant in Tournon-sur-Rhône

After a nine hour drive from Normandy it was so wonderful to arrive in this very special hotel. The location is superb, carved out of the rock overlooking a beautiful lake. |We had an exceptionally warm welcome after we parked in the secure parking. Our room overlooked the lake, was clean, well appointed and tastefully done. |I went for a refreshing swim in the infinity pool overlooking the lake before going down to dinner in a terrace by the lake. The service was excellent and the menu imaginative. Dinner was superb and a real highlight.|Breakfast the next morning was on an upper terrace. The only minor disappointments were that the orange juice was not freshly squeezed. Also they only served a sweet yogurt; a more varied choice would have been welcome.||However, this was a real treat and ranks sufficiently highly that we will definitely return and stay for two days next time. Nous avons passé un week-end avec chambre balnéo et dîner à l’auberge. Dans l’ensemble, l’expérience ne correspondait pas à nos attentes pour un établissement affiché 4 étoiles.

Points à améliorer : • Chambre : elles sont plutôt petites et l’agencement avec de nombreux meubles rend l’espace peu fonctionnel. La décoration, bien que basée sur le thème « auberge », mériterait une modernisation et plus de confort. Certains détails donnent une impression d’économie au détriment du standing attendu (rideaux de douche, rideaux trop longs, WC très bas, sèche-cheveux basique). • Literie : nous avons bien dormi grâce à une bonne insonorisation (même si la vitre supplémentaire avec stickers reste surprenante). En revanche, le lit est correct sans plus et les couvertures rappellent un style un peu daté, loin du confort douillet qu’on attend. • Restauration : c’est sans doute la partie la plus décevante. Les plats sont joliment présentés mais manquent de saveur. On sent que les produits sont de bonne qualité, mais l’assaisonnement et la cuisson ne sont pas toujours au rendez-vous. Un peu plus de passion et de créativité en cuisine feraient toute la différence. • Petit-déjeuner : le choix reste assez basique pour un 4 étoiles. Hormis le pain, beaucoup de produits semblent industriels (madeleines sous sachet, salade de fruits en boîte). Nous aurions préféré moins de variété mais davantage de produits frais et faits maison.

Points positifs : • L’hôtel dispose de deux belles terrasses, dont une avec piscine à débordement offrant une superbe vue. • Malgré nos réserves, le séjour a été calme et reposant.

En résumé, le cadre et le potentiel sont là, mais certains détails et surtout la partie restauration ne reflètent pas le niveau attendu pour un établissement 4 étoiles. Avec quelques ajustements et plus d’attention portée à la qualité, l’expérience pourrait être bien...

Everything was lovely, the warm welcome from the management, the room, the dinner and the pool, but the temperature of the a/c was insufficient to deal with the weather outside. We were told that you keep it 10 degrees below summer heat and 10 degrees above winter heat, well it was at least 38 degrees outside, and to have the room cooled to 28 was not comfortable and neither of us slept well, being overheated and stuffy. We think you should consider cooling the bedrooms slightly more, after all, they have duvets and cool fresh air is lovely. All the other hotels we stayed in (6) had independently...
