The Chartron is located in the small town of Saint-Donat, about 17km from the nearest exit off the A7 autoroute between Lyon and Marseilles. The town is in the middle of an agricultural area specializing in fruit (apricots) and wine (like Crozes-Hermitage). The hotel faces onto the road - parking is available in a garage up a side street. The rooms are decorated very nicely if a little cramped. Free (fast) Wi-Fi is available, but only after you receive a slip containing a username and password (why hotels continue to insist on this is beyond me). But you probably won't come here for the hotel itself as the restaurant rightly gets the most praise. We ate a very good evening meal there taking the "menu de saison" (EUR38) together with some excellent local wine. All of the dishes were enjoyable, including an excellent selection of cheeses at the end. The service is very good and friendly, but not much English is spoken. Be prepared to try your best French and all will be well. Breakfast is also good (EUR14) - much better than the norm. This is a place worth considering if you're looking for an overnight stop during a long autoroute drive to or from the Riviera or other places...

Read moreChartron is mainly a very fine restaurant - with overnight options. A few rooms, all fully equipped (including AC) quite small but very comfortable. And affordable. If any criticism should be made, the beds are a bit narrow.|Else ... everything is fine.||Highly recommended if you have plans to eat in the restaurant and want a short way home so to speak. And you should definitely try the superb restaurant (see my separate review).||The hotel/restaurant are in the middle of the small town Saint-Donat-sur-l'Herbasse but has in any case a secluded "back yard" with a small pond and some furniture for relaxation - along with something to drink...
