We stopped in Villereal without knowing where to eat. A friend recommended to us to go to "le moderne". We ate there 4 times in 2 days!! It was in July...and we came back here on our return from holiday 2 days ago.
I hadn't written anything in July, and after our last meal I believe that it is necessary to repair this injustice... I even created an internet account (with the help of my son, I admit) for the occasion.
First !!! The food is delicious. Congratulations to the chef and the cooks!! I passed near the kitchen several times, I heard the dish washer's screams each time đ€Ł but the atmosphere looked good. But when I could see the tiny size of this kitchen, I can only congratulate this team in the kitchen again. I was a chef in London for 15 years and then itinerant chef all over the world, so even though I've been retired for 2 years, I speak with knowledge.
The value for money is unbeatable and the service is wonderful when you see the crowd who come to eat at each service.
Thanks to Nicolas and Laura (I hope I'm not mistaken for Laura's first name, my son fell in love with her eyes đ), on the lunch services in July, for your professionalism and your kindness. Thanks also to the team Arnold and Romeo in the evening in July, and yesterday evening. Special mention to Arnold who was especially friendly and very caring with us each time. I note in passing that he speaks very good and fluently English, so, if like my children, you do not speak French well he will be able to put you at ease (and Nicolas too).
The only problem - always need one - would be the lack of smile and the unpleasant side of an evening waitress (whom we saw today and whose behavior remained the same as in July) I don't know her first name but she had glasses. I specify that they are three waitresses in the team of Arnold and Romeo so the rest of the team goes up the level without problem. Maybe it was exceptional... but I doubt it.
I should point out that it was the week of the 14th in July, and so a very large crowd, and that yesterday the terrace was full.
A big thank you to Silvie, the boss (I think) behind the bar, who always found us a table even though we hadn't booked, thanks to her two BOYS Nicolas and Arnold đđŒ.
With that...hope this inspires you to go there for...
Read moreBusy Friday in May but lots of free tables . We arrived and sat at the front of the cafe as we have two old dogs who needed some space and our rug to sit in. We were settled ready to order but when the waiter came he said we could not eat there and would have to move around the corner. At first he said it was a table for 4 but the next table had 2 people sitting there with4 seats and when I pointed it out he then said it was for coffee only . Other tables at the front were eating food and I said I did not want to move the dogs He said we had to move and so we said we would go somewhere else and he responded with âgood, bye by! The absolute worst of French rudeness, inflexibility and disdain for tourists. It might be one of Franceâs most beautiful villages but we will remember it for one of Franceâs the rudest waiters . And they lost a potential...
Read moreWe stopped at this very busy restaurant for lunch today. We ordered the daily menu: entree, plat, dessert. Entree and plat got served along with the drinks but not the dessert. There was a misunderstanding about this which is fine, since staff was very busy. However when the female waitress showed up with the dessert, she rudely threw the plates and spoons in front of us on the table with a disgusted face. Then she proceeded to loudly complain about us to a French guest behind our table. We are senior Canadian travelers and never before experienced such utter rudeness, unprofessional behavior anywhere else in Europe. The food was mediocre. Altogether it took 2 hours to have lunch here. We were ignored for long periods of time while all the French guests...
