Siam Café und Restaurant — Restaurant in Bad Wörishofen

Tried it for myself — a fair compromise between Thai authenticity and local taste.

After reading both good and bad reviews, I decided to try the restaurant for myself and form my own opinion.

As someone who lives and works in Bangkok, I know and love Thai food—I eat it almost every day. I started with the Tom Kha Kai soup. It was reasonably tasty, though it seemed to be made with local vegetables and lacked the distinctive punch of galangal. Not spicy at all, and overall quite different from the authentic Thai version. Still, it wasn't unpleasant—just milder.

Next, I had the classic Pad Thai with chicken. It came without any chili flakes, which is quite unusual for Thai cuisine. (To be fair, I didn’t ask for any, so perhaps it would have been available.) The taste was quite bland—and I’m English, so I understand what "bland" means!

That said, I’m not being overly critical. You have to consider the local customer base in Bad Wörishofen: typically German, conservative, and elderly. Many would not tolerate spicy food or unfamiliar ingredients. Judging by the breadth of the menu, the chef clearly knows Thai cuisine but is adapting it for the local palate—understandably, as staying authentic might not be commercially viable here.

War heute das erste mal hier und bevor ich hier her gekommen bin hab ich mir erst mal die Rezensionen durch gelesen hab mir dann aber gedacht ich mach mir ein eigenes Bild. Die Kommentare hatten bezüglich des Essens leider recht. Das Essen war zwar heiß und schnell am Tisch, aber es hatte leider überhaupt kein bisschen Geschmack und das Gemüse war leider auch noch fast roh. Ein netter Thai direkt am Kurpark gelegen, Blick auf den Tennisplatz. Für so ein "Tennisrestaurant" recht hochpreisig. Thaicurry mit Hühnchen 14 €, die Portion nicht wirklich groß. Service freundlich, aber mit lediglich 5 besetzten Tischen schon zeitlich etwas überfordert. Essen geschmacklich gut, etwas salzig für meinen Geschmack.
