We have stayed at Zur guten Einkehr for years. It sits on the top of a hill in the village and has just a few comfortable and spotlessly clean rooms on the upper floors and a nice Italian restaurant on the first floor. It is family owned and run. Monika speaks quite good English and provides a nice and typical German buffet breakfast in the morning. Rooms are also typical of the area with TV, comfortable beds, private bath with the small showers. This is not the place to stay if you want elevators, spa sized tubs, wall to wall carpeting, air conditioning and a hefty nightlife. But for us, the beautiful view of the mountains out of the door on your private balcony in the morning or watching the hang gliders coasting down in the evening, or listening to the sounds of the cowbells across the fields makes for a relaxing and perfect spot. ||||Bayrishzell is a small village but it has train transportation into Munich and is a good day drive to the west for a visit to Zugspitze or Ludwig's castles. A good drive to the east would include the salt mines, Salzburg, Eagle's Nest and other sites. To the south, you can easily drive to Innsbruck and other sites in Austria. If you try driving to any of these places for a day trip, you can still be back to home base in Bayrischzell by dinner time. If you are a skier, biker or hiker, Wendelstein is the 3rd tallest mountain in Germany and is within a short drive or a longer walk from the village. If you want the nightlife, Munich can be reached easily by train or you can drive there in a little over an hour.||||To my family, this is a perfect place to stay and make your home base while visiting the...

Read moreFood was excellent!! The pizzas are thin crust and the cheese is really good. Their pasta was cooked just right (for me - slightly softer than al dente) and the tomato cream sauce was so good. I love their onion soup which is clear and not very thick. Had some artichoke starter as well which was super good. For dessert we had the panna cotta and their tiramisu, I preferred the panna cotta but both were good. And their prices are very reasonable! The only problem I had which is not their fault but Google map's fault is that the navigation doesn't lead you all the way to them. You need to continue going up the small road uphill...
