KILOMBO African Restaurant & Culture — Restaurant in Duisburg

This is one of the worst restaurants we have ever been to. To make matters worse, we were also scammed by the owner, who made us pay for a small piece of fish for no less than 30 euros. Our advice: never, but never, go here!

Upon arrival we had to look for a table ourselves and only after 10-15 minutes did the servant come to ask if we wanted a drink. Unfortunately, she did not speak English. When I asked her if she could take our order properly, she assured me that it would not be a problem. We ordered a mix of meat for two people, a separate piece of fish per person and side dishes of rice and atjeke. I also asked for an extra sauce for the rice and pointed it out. I repeated the order again, and the servant nodded as if everything was noted. Later it turned out that she had hardly written anything down and only noted two dishes that she had invented herself – we saw this on the receipt.

We waited more than two hours for our food. When it finally came, it was a great disappointment. The portion of meat for two was barely enough for one person, and the extra sauce for the rice was not included. The piece of fish was outrageously small, barely worth a bite, and the chicken was burnt and too salty. The sauce we got was sour and absolutely not what we had ordered. I just couldn't eat it. The food was cold and not to eat. If you sell a menu for 2 for 48 but a single small piece of fish for 30 say yourself is that normal? I don't understand why we waited 2 hours for this because the restaurant was also empty.

The owner later came up with an extra piece of fish, which looked strange. To our surprise, we had to pay 30 euros for this, with the reason that everything is more expensive nowadays. In my life, I have never experienced a small piece of fish being sold for such a ridiculous amount. When I spoke to the owner about this, she started discussing price increases with me, which she said was our responsibility to understand. She blamed us, as if we hadn't been clear enough about our order. Eventually, she hid in the kitchen instead of looking for a solution.

I feel cheated. I came hungry and went home hungry, because I couldn't eat what was served to us. This is the worst experience we have ever had. I said to the owner: "If you make your money in such a way by defrauding people, you can be very happy with yourself, because this is really not possible."

We paid a total of 95 euros for food that was worth at most 20 euros. The service, food and attitude of the staff were below all standards. This restaurant is a downright disappointment and a waste of your time and money. My advice: save yourself this drama and...

Unfortunately the restaurant did not meet my expectations. We have ordered fish and jellof rice. Here is my experience: Cons: fish and chicken were pretty bland the portions are kind of small (I am talking about jellof rice) the prices are high (the fish costed €30) we had to wait for over an hour (we‘ve been told there is some problem with the stove)

Pros: the jellof rice was amazing! the atmosphere is nice, there is good music the food presentation is nice as well salad is served with every meal

Wir haben uns am Sonntag spontan dazu entschlossen, von Gladbeck bis nach Duisburg zu fahren, um das Restaurant auszuprobieren. Wir waren zu dritt im Kilombo, das Essen war super lecker und es wurde auf unsere Wünsche eingegangen. ☺️

Der Betreiber Eric war sehr freundlich und zuvorkommend und hat alles erklärt und Empfehlungen ausgesprochen. Auch der Koch, der sich erkundigt hatte, ob alles geschmeckt hat, war sehr nett. Mein Hit des Abends waren die Plantain, davon hätte ich noch viel mehr essen können 🤣🤤.

Rundum hatten wir einen sehr gelungenen Abend. Wir haben uns herzlich willkommen gefühlt und kommen ganz sicher wieder.

Bei unserem nächsten Besuch freuen wir uns dann auf ein Dessert und probieren unbedingt das Fufu ☺️. Jellof hat auf jedenfall schon sehr sehr gut geschmeckt und auch das Lamm und Rindfleisch mit Yam war einfach köstlich 😋!

Schön war auch die kleine Bibliothek, in der man ein bisschen rumstöbern konnte, während man auf das Essen gewartet hat. Wichtig ist zu wissen, dass man ein bisschen Zeit mitbringen sollte, da das Essen ganz frisch zubereitet wird. Aber bei so einer guten und leckeren Essen wartet man gerne und genießt die Cocktails 🍹 und die leckere Limonade in der Zeit☺️.

Positiv sind uns auch noch aufgefallen, dass die Toiletten 🚽👍🏽super sauber waren und auch auf den Damentoiletten an die Frauen gedacht wurde und kleine Extras bereit standen. Dies fand ich super aufmerksam.

Wir kommen definitiv wieder! 👍🏽
