I know this hotel very well, having stayed maybe a dozen times while visiting relatives in the area. It is indeed family-owned and run, and the owners take great pride and care of every aspect of its operations. I recommend it without hesitation.||||Location: the hotel is situated on one of the larger roads but the windows are dual-glazed and the traffic noise has never kept me awake. The autobahn to Kassel is relatively close by. The town is very small but possesses a hidden jewel: a small church from the 8th century on the hill behind the town in the middle of the forest. Fritzlar and the Edersee are worth seeing as well.||||Rooms: they vary considerably in size; ask for Room 35 on the third floor, which has a separate sitting area that makes a long stay very comfortable. The rooms are always clean, though the soaps provided are incredibly small; ask for additional ones, and probably also for extra towels. All will be provided if you ask. I love the little sweets put on the pillow most nights and the free water bottle.||||Food: better than the average German fare by far, AND the kitchen will change any dish to make it more to your liking (if you stay long enough to know it already). For example, they will change the delicious but heavy "Gemuesepfanne" (pan of vegetables) to delete the sauce and/or decrease the cooking time. Just ask, and they will personalize your meal without extra charge. Breakfast is more than plentiful. If you request it, you'll receive a near-unlimited number of to-order lattes and other coffees from the machine. Beware that the restaurant closes for dinner at times, though if you have no other options, the owners will feed you anyway if you have no other options.||||Service; wonderful, friendly, personal, and patient. ||||Wifi: so far I've always had to pay for it. It's a bit complicated to get it set up but again, the staff will assist you.||||Facilities: bar, restaurant, big meeting hall, fun Kegelbahn below, and an outside veranda.||||Clientele: lots of locals who celebrate all kinds of things together or enjoy their Stammtisch. But it's not only the locals. Thankfully, there are also lots of business travelers who appreciate the value they receive, choirs that travel together, and, in November, hunting parties that shoot the local boar. You may also meet the occasional international traveler. ||||Negatives: business is good at this hotel, and it has been well-used. It's time for a renovation, and new carpets, new paint and/or wallpaper are all in order. Note also that there is no elevator. It appears that it is expected for you to carry your bags up even to your third floor room. But again, if you request assistance, I'm sure it will be provided. Lastly, some of the agricultural smells intruding into the rooms may be difficult to ignore by city dwellers.||||Overall, this part of Nordhessen is pretty much a backwater, rural and unsophisticated (which, of course, is also its charm). This hotel will nonetheless meet all...

Read moreDue to booking late we decided to stay at the Bueraberg for a visit to Fritzlar and the Harz Mountains, we were not disappointed. The Hotel is family owned and we were met by the owner who made us most welcome, we were most lucky to be given the Bridal suite which was a lovely double aspect room with a four-poster bed (with two duvets), the room also had a door opening onto a private balcony at the front of the Hotel with views across the local hills. All of the décor was fresh and spotlessly clean with a good range of toiletries and new looking towels in the bath-room. Having returned from a visit to Fritzlar we had a drink in the Bar and, whilst not eating in the Hotel did observe some delicious looking fare arriving at the adjacent tables. We noticed that ear-plugs were provided with the toiletries and we wondered if previous guests had commented or complained about noise from the road and railway line that run adjacent to the Hotel. However, whether it was an overdose of fresh-air and good beer, we slept soundly and were not aware of any intrusive noise (the windows were all double glazed). The breakfast offered a good range of typical continental fare which was constantly refreshed. We were surprised at the cost of the room, it being the cheapest during a week of motoring in Belgium, Germany and Italy. The Bueraberg was exceptional value for money with lovely hosts, probably the best Hotel...
