Hotel Brielhof — Restaurant in Gemeindeverwaltungsverband Hechingen

We stayed here for 6 nights. Wonderful family run hotel and restaurant; very clean and spacious room, comfortable bed, the room included a refrigerator, large bathroom and a small balcony to enjoy. The hotel is situated in an isolated area with convenient on/off exit from route 27. Traffic noise was a bit concerning at first, but did not affect sleep/dining experience. The hotel location is incredibly close to Hohenzollern castle for early morning arrival to beat the crowds. There is no elevator, but our luggage was handled by a young hotel family member, so no problem! Breakfast is continental with excellent choices of boiled eggs, delicious deli meats and cheeses, breads, croissants, pretzels, jellies, cereals, yogurt, fresh fruit, fresh coffee and selection of teas. Lunch and dinner choices were excellent and the food was superb. I do believe this was the best in dining that we have experienced in Germany over the last 5 years. Salads were fresh, colorful and delicious. The schnitzel and spaetzle were especially good!! Entrees were a wide variety and prepared top of the line. Service was impeccable. Very attentive and accommodating wait staff at all meals. Check-in was easy and very accommodating to our needs. Dining areas were spotless. Outside dining area was very comfortable. Hotel was located at the base of hill that Schloss Hohenstollern was located on, and you get an impressive view of the castle from the hotel parking lot. Our rooms were clean and comfortable, but a bit too modern for my tastes. Hotel has been expanded from the original structure, so you don't have that rustic, German feel throughout the building. Checking in and out was easy. Wifi was included. We had a double and single room. Both had bathroom attached, and double room also had a balcony. Hotel located along a busy bundesstrasse (highway) but room was surprisingly quiet. After a long drive and the afternoon spent at the castle we decided to eat at the restaurant at the hotel. Food was really good, but I expected more wild game on the menu, because of all the antlers in one of the main stairways gave you the impression of a hunting lodge. Wir waren gestern Abend im Brielhof. Wir waren 26 Personen und hatten reserviert. Es war eine kleine Adventsfeier. Was soll ich sagen: ich war sehr enttäuscht. Ich hatte im Vorfeld telefonisch nachgefragt, ob alles barrierefrei ist, und es wurde bejat. Schon vor dem Eingang mussten mehrere Stufen überwunden werden und es lag eine kleine, kurze Rampe bereit, die dann von meinem Mann in die richtige Position gebracht werden musste, damit ich überhaupt mit dem Rollstuhl nach oben kam. Leider war das so steil, dass ich nur mit Unterstützung mit meinem E-Rolli nach oben kam. Nun musste die Rampe an die zweite Treppe umgelegt werden, damit ich dann letztendlich zum Eingang gelangte. Die Behindertentoilette war geräumig und sehr sauber. Leider war die Heizung in der Toilette aus und dementsprechend kalt. Der Tisch, an dem wir saßen, war "vornehm" eingedeckt und sollte auf gehobene Gastronomie hinweisen; ebenso die Preise der Speisen. Der Tisch wurde von zwei Kellnern bedient, die sich den den Tisch in zwei Bereiche aufteilten. Die beiden Kellner konnten unterschiedlicher nicht sein. Der eine, leider nicht derjenige der uns bediente war relativ gut geschult, der andere, also der, der uns zugeteilt war, erinnerte mich (und nicht nur mich) sehr stark an "Dinner for one". Wir hatten das Fleisch auf dem Teller serviert bekommen und die Beilagen (Pommes od. Spätzle) wurden am Tisch vom Service vorgelegt. So weit, so gut. Dann kam der Kellner erneut mit einer Platte Pommes und hat einfach jedem, während man aß, nochmal Pommes aufgeladen. Das Gleiche machte er mit Spätzle, auch bei den Gästen, die garkeine Spätzle bestellt hatte oder wollten. Es wurde einem quasi aufgedrängt mit den Worten: bevor wir es wegschmeißen müssen. Unser Essen war geschmacklich gut (andere waren nicht so begeistert), jedoch hat die Preis-Leistung nicht gestimmt. Wenn ich eine normale Portion komplett leer esse, plus zusätzlich noch einen Beilagensalat und dann nicht übermäßig satt bin, dann war die Portion bestimmt nicht groß. Getränke konnte man, zumindest auf unserer Seite, keine nachbestellen, weil der Kellner auch auf Nachfragen nicht kam. Zum Schluss, ca. 22:00 Uhr, saßen wir dann noch zu acht am Tisch und haben uns noch gut unterhalten. Wir hatten unsere Rechnungen bereits beglichen und teilweise auch schon leergetrunken (es wurde ja nicht gefragt ob wir noch was möchte), da kam aufeinmal der Kellner, der sich den ganzen Abend nicht gekümmert hat, sagt kurz, wie aus dem Nichts: wir würden jetzt dann Feierabend machen und schaltete das Licht aus. Wir mussten ihn bitte, das Licht nochmal anzuschalten, damit wir sehen konnten wo wir hingehen. Ich mit meinem Rolli hatte da besondere Schwierigkeiten. Ein Gast hat ihn gefragt, ob er der Rausschmeißer sei und er meinte, das sei sein zweiter Vorname. Beim Rausgehen an der Treppe mit dem Rolli die selbe Prozedur.
