Chiemseebräu — Restaurant in Grabenstätt

We visited here Saturday 29th May 2021 during a long cycle ride around Chiemsee. We didn't stop for a beer, we just stopped to pickup some bottles to take away. The brewery is located on the northern edge of Grabenstatt it's easy to find it's across the road from a Netto and the paintwork on the outside is a yellow colour.

Inside it was dark, old wood and plenty going on, the super charming and enthusiastic lady who served me had hundreds of bottles of miniature whisky on the table that she was labelling up. I wasn't aware until arriving here that they also make whisky and a beer based spirit as well as mustards and similar products. I picked up a Helles, I think it was a Helles? and a 1litre bottle of Bock which she labelled for me there and then. It's a cute little place, it would have been nice to have stayed for a beer, if they have a Biergarten? But we were also heading to Camba and needed to speed...

Vor 10 Jahren war es besser!! Damals war es ausschließlich eine Brauerei mit vielen Sitzplätzen. Heute nimmt die "Whisky-Brennerei" ca. einen 1/3 der Sitzplätze in Anspruch, so wie ich das gesehen hatte. Wie gesagt, damals, vor 10 Jahren, konnte man hier sehr gut essen, der Service war perfekt! Heutige Erfahrung (gleiche Besitzer): Service Note 6. Samstags zur Mittagszeit dort gewesen. Hier wurde uns gesagt, dass erst ab 17 Uhr geöffnet sei. Wir sagten OK, dann bis heute Abend. Gegen 17:20 Uhr und nach über 30 km wieder dort angekommen, war die Gaststätte gefüllt aber es waren sichtlich noch Plätze frei. Der Chef ignorierte uns mehr oder weniger, Chefin sagte uns dann, dass heute Whisky-Probe sei und alles besetzt wäre. Na vielen Dank dafür, dass uns das nicht schon am Mittag gesagt wurde. Die Zeit und Kilometer hätte man sich auch sparen können! Aber es hat auch ein Gutes... Wir durften dann im Ratskeller Aschau einkehren. Super Essen, super Service, einfach spitze! Hier ist man merklich...

Great german food, wonderful beer, ok prices and huge portions. The personel was the best, all were super kind and spoke english so they were able to explain what the food on the menu was. They make the beer and also whiskey which I wish I'd tried. All in all, great place to eat and have a nice time in...
