OK, first we have to say that we booked the wrong date for the hotel. I received an email from Booking.com saying the reservation had been cancelled for "no show". I called the woman and explained that we had booked one day earlier than we had intended to be there. She was quite aggressive and went on and on about how they waited for us until 2:00 am, I doubt it. She said she charged our credit card. I said people do make mistakes, we intended to arrive one night later. I asked if she would apply the charge to the night we were actually staying there. NO. Yes, it was our mistake. However, in our travels in various countries, there have been several times when, for whatever reason, flights cancelled, car died, etc. that we have called our accommodation to say we weren't going to make it, and they have understood and not charged us. I think in the interest of customer service, this woman could have done the same. It certainly wasn't our intent to be "no shows". The room was tired, as we suspected it would be. Unfortunately, it was late when we arrived and there wasn't another hotel available. The Villa Thai Restaurant is in fact two restaurants, a Thai Kitchen and a Japanese Sushi, Sashimi and Tempura Kitchen, each having their own Chef from Thailand and Japan. Good quality, tasty meals in very high prices. Nice atmosphere with not-so-welcoming service by the owner herself. We paid a visit as a small group with a kid without reservation. Although the waiter was quite professional and friendly, the owner of the restaurant was very rude when taking our orders, organising our table and serving. We speculated if we offended her by coming in casual dress, or by bringing a small kid. My husband even wondered if there were ongoing conflicts between Thai people and Chinese people which we were not aware. But when I read the feedback from other customers, I realized that the owner's attitude is commonly received as negative.
