Café Kern - Simonskall — Restaurant in Hürtgenwald

Waited for 1:15 hour for a Kartoffelsalat and a goulash Suppe. When asked what was wrong the waiter was rude. He said it was busy. It was not. One of the very few places that has earned a 1 star.

Edit: After the reaction of the owner I have to add the following: during the over one hour wait about 12 people got a lunch. The way they looked I guess most of them were regulars. Some of them entered 30 minutes after me and got their food within 20 minutes. Not sure how you call this a busy kitchen, and really, we ordered Kartoffelsalad and Goulashsoup. The café is really nice positioned in a valley and giving a great view to the mountain slope behind. Parking is also largely available around. I visited the coffee with a hiking group of 10 people because of the good reviews. However, we were disappointed by the behaviour of the staff. They were obviously understaffed, but it does not justifies the rudeness of the waitress with the tattoos. She literally said " Mir is scheißegal" about our order resulting in our coffees arriving spilled, without an underplate, spoon or cookie. Tja, Café Kern, die guten Zeiten sind wohl vorbei… Als wir vor fast sechs Jahren das erste Mal den von Kollegen empfohlenen „besten Käsekuchen der Nordeifel“ probierten, da waren auch wir überzeugt. Doch danach kontinuierlich sinkende Tendenz in Kuchenqualität, Sauberkeit und teilweise auch im Service (außer: die männliche Servicekraft mit Brille und schöner rheinischer Mundart, der Mann ist Top!) Der Käsekuchen am Wochenende war vor allem eines: Käse! Aufgepumpt mit Gelatine und künstlich schmeckendem Aroma, im Biss wie Gummi, kein Rand aus Mürbeteig und auch der Boden aus Mürbeteig nur hauchdünn. Dafür Lag er wie ein Klotz im Magen. Bei weitem nicht so lecker und fluffig wie früher. Die Sesselauflagen auf der Terrasse verschmiert und dreckig, die müssen dringend einmal gewaschen werden. Tja, und die jungen weiblichen Aushilfsservicekräfte? Von erfrischender Unbedarftheit und mit frech-fröhlich-lockerer Zunge im Umgang mit den doch eher älteren Gästen. Die müsste man mal ein bisschen besser einweisen und anleiten, Arbeit im Service heißt vor allem „Service“ und nicht jugendlich-hochnäsiges Herablassen.

Am Ende liegt alles in der Verantwortung der Betreiberin des Cafés. Die Chefin muss wissen, was sie will und wo es lang geht. Das Angebot muss für die Kunden passen. Oder anders ausgedrückt: Der Wurm muss dem Fisch schmecken, und...
