For the freshness of the air near the water. That is the main reason to go to this place. It is delightful to sit, face to face with the Nordelbe. But not too long, the wind will get you cold really fast, if you don't make use of the blanket generously put at disposal by the cafe. This place has a charm, because of its location, in a green area and near the water. But the place is uncomfortable, due it's Arty and original construction : it isn't properly isolated, and thus fully and nearly only negotiable for a long coffee in the heart of the Sommer. There are two places where one can order food and drinks, and the one located in the container is very narrow in the cold days. If you want go to there, spot a day where there is sun, and be aware that there will be quite some people, and most probably no place to sit facing the water. The cakes are good, and the coffee very decent. I haven't tried their salty dishes, as far as I saw, there are some salads etc. I put one star less because of the randomness of the interior decoration, which has a "heteregonous" style on purpose, but parodies, promotes maybe unwillingly a false idea of what esthetics and art can be, by trying to give a more serious illusion of it, than other coffee places. Sorry for this too "serious and abstract" end note, my geekyness about art...
Read moreALL I CAN SAY IS WOW. I cannot believe that I almost missed out on this gem. An absolutely AMAZING floating oasis on the Elbe River. It’s a bit ramshackley which makes it even more charming. Besides looking great it also has a great vibe. And from what I gather, it’s definitely an insidery kind of place with very few tourists visiting (esp. during the week). It was the HIGHLIGHT of my day. I didn't get any food or drinks but from what I observed, everything looked delicious and healthy (lots of salads etc). Also, check out ElbeBees, the beehive project atop some pylons. Artist AnneMarie Maes has developed this bio-tech sculpture specifically for the needs of bees, not for human utility e.g. no honey is taken, but the bees use it for their own survival. The sculpture is equipped with digital monitoring technology that enables the artist to conduct further research into the disappearance of honey bees. A beekeeper regularly checks the situation of the...
Read moreI really, really wanted to love this place. The location, view, and ample seating are awesome. However, the most glaringly obvious problem is how confusing and literally inaccessible ALL of the seating is (as of the time this review is being written). Once you get over the bridge, the seating is arranged in a labyrinth of walkways, stairs and blocked off areas. If you are disabled, or just have trouble walking, do not come here.
The waterfront seating which is closest to the entrance is actually BLOCKED by planters and you have to walk all the way to the end and back.
It’s unclear where you should order, and the staff is absolutely unwilling to help you navigate anything. I wish the carrot cake was its redeeming point. But it was dry, had barely any icing, and tasted like nothing. The view is lovely. The cafe looks really nice. It’s just a nightmare to navigate and the customer service is super cold...
