Zum Schwarzen Bär — Restaurant in Hermsdorf

😊: The building itself - I heard the oldest in Hermsdorf - is really amazing medieval, with a beautiful inner courtyard. The rooms were spacious. Breakfast was fine.. 😢: We had changed our reservation from 1 to 2 nights, but the hotel did not update this change such that we had no room when we arrived. This is of course unprofessional but can happen. What bothered us more is the reaction to this: instead of acknowledging the mistake and tackling this challenge, the staff got defensive and aggressive to us. Basically they were upset about this extra work when THEY made the mistake! We just felt really not welcome there, more like an annoyance. In the end, they did help us find another hotel nearby, so we did not end up on the street, but the way of handling was just bad. For all of that lack of professionalism, the price per night was not super cheap either. Overall, the hotel is just stuck in the past in terms of processes, handling of check-in check-out etc. it all feels like 30 years ago. Nice property with big parking inside the hotel yard. Reception was in the restaurant/bar where they served breakfast/dinner. Checkin was fast and easy, only minus was that the ladies which took care of reception and restaurant afternoon did not speak english. Room was small, with only basic necesities, bed, table, chair and spacey closet. There was very little space in the room. Furniture was not new, but it was clean. Bathroom was also bit oldish, but besides it, it was clean, warm, plenty of towels, hand drier and one soap. Interior of the hotel was simple and clean, but nothing special about it. For dinner they offered quiete a few dishes. Mostly local game or standard German kitchen. However food was tasty, well seasoned, nicely served. Breakfast was simple, selection of some dry meats/cheese bread and some spreads. Restaurant/reception was nicelly decorated in hunters lodge style. Overall, recomendation for stay and restaurant.
