Darmstadt local who’s been coming here for years was turned away by the owner himself. So I’m visiting Darmstadt because my husband’s family lives here. My father in law was so excited to bring me to this place for some really good schnitzel. His family has been coming to this place for years! There’s no dedicated parking area so we walked from our in-law’s place. We brought our dogs because it did claim to be a dog-friendly restaurant. We sat outside despite the dreary weather but once it started really raining, we asked to be sat inside. The patio had a small covered area where we asked if we could have our dogs stay. The staff were more than willing to accommodate but then the owner himself showed up and told my father-in-law to bring our dog somewhere else. At this point, we have already ordered our food so the rest of us decided to stay. My 70 year old father-in-law walked the dog home in the rain. The owner was very insensitive and arrogant.
Needless to say, this experience with the owner himself left a bad taste in our mouths for the rest of the evening. I was originally going to meet up with a family friend (another Darmstadt local) in this place but after tonight, I just can’t advocate for a...
Read moreIn the schnitzel that I ordered, some braun string was founded! So I just complained about this to a waitress! She went to Chef and came back.. told to me "that was the bark of onions!". "No one dies, eating the bark of onions". According to her saying, this time she would provide a drink for free, but next time when I visit, I should understand that every food is made directly in Eichbaum and the same situation might happen again.. And she didn't say "Sorry or apologize" before I asked her! Above all, she kept staring at me directly and fiercely. Also, before I finished saying something, she went her way to the kitchen. And a manager came to me.. I complained again.. He totaly didn't understand what I said.. and he has just said I should pay and go.. And "never come back, because of my rude behavior" However, they were very rude and wrong!
I was very angry but I didn't want to make any troble any more for my friends und other guests.. Is that my fault? I wanted to ask for everyone who wants to be a guest...
Read moreI have been here several times. One of the special things about this place is the huge schnitzel. It is hard to finish, but you can have it doggy-bagged (if you pay extra, of course). The place is usually full and you can only reserve a table in the winter. In the summer it is not possible to reserve a table. This is a direct reflection of the general behaviour of the staff: they have zero to no respect for the customers. When you visit them, it always seems like you are doing something wrong when you order food. It is as if they are there by chance and serve you not because you are a customer but because they are forced to. If they find out you are not German, they will be even ruder. Sometimes the place randomly closes without warning, so I recommend contacting them by phone. The atmosphere is nothing to write home about. To conclude, the only reason to visit this place is the huge schnitzel, which is quite expensive but good. The staff is unprofessional, so...
