Alte Zollstation — Restaurant in Obing (VGem)

I have visited the hotel and the restaurant. While the hotel was really nice the service and food side of the business left a long lasting bad impression. First time in my life my spinach knodeln were burnt with black marks on them, salad had a fly on it (besides Blattsalad made of iceberg lettuce - cheap and low quality side dish) but what I did not enjoy at all was the defensiveness from the staff. We waited long to be given menu and then got the fly on the salad. Nothing was acknowledged or apologized for. In contrary - the staff tried to argue,...breakfast is quite limited, eggs were made in a huge block in the morning, it looked quite bad, sausage was cold, nothing to have coffee with like cookies or piece of cake. In other reviews from other travellers you can see the reply of the staff that is simply rude and this is exactly what we have experienced from the man serving us. The lady was very nice. Another low point was at the check out: we came over to leave the key and say "thank you, this is your key, good bye!" the Check out person asked why we even bothered to come over if the room was...

This hotel and restaurant deserve an extra plus on the 5 out of 5 . The very old government building has been converted into a very updated and modern hotel with the original old exterior and a very well designed and engineered interior which is aesthetically pleasing and very comfortable. Rooms are large and clean , bright and comfortable. Bathroom is modern , clean and bright . |The restaurant serves an excellent and diverse menu at a very reasonable price point . |Great inside and secure bicycle storage . |The best part of this excellent hotel restaurant is the staff . The reception was very friendly and helpful . One of the owners , Alex Häusler , who we had the opportunity to meet and speak at length with was a great host - full of knowledge and local history and was a pleasure to speak with . |His English was much better than my German .|Will return to this place whenever we are in the area on one of our bicycling adventures...
