I've been to Macoroni Grill 3 times since I've lived here in Germany The first time, my waitress was a little hard to track down but she was nice. My wine glass was brought to me and I had a moscato and as i looked into the glass i could see the left over red wine residue from the last customer. She apologized and gave me a different clean glass. Not that horrible of an experience but I was a little bit grossed out. My second trip it seemed like everything I ordered was out. And finally I settled on the lobster ravioli. On my first bite I had a sharp shard of lobster claw stab me in my gum and my mouth started bleeding so i spit it out onto my hand and it was the size of a pencil eraser and it was so sharp that it could've punctured me if i had swallowed it. And it was hidden in my bite as if it was covered in enough sauce that i didn't see it when i brought the fork to my mouth. I told my waitress while agonizing in pain and her excuse did not involve a sorry but the just explained to me that the seafood was so fresh that they sometimes miss a price of the shell because they remove the shells personally.... that is still a physical contaminant! It should not have been in my meal for me to get hurt. She tried to comp my meal but the manager was no where to be found for about a half hour so we just left. My third visit wasn't so bad. The hostess was snobby and a but rude. My waiter was pretty good. Food came out fast. I ordered a buffalo parmesan chicken and there was absolutely nothing buffalo about it, I basically just got a normal chicken parmesan. And I ordered two pepperoni pizzas from the kids menu from my children. When they brought the pizzas out they were melting hot and still steaming heavily and I had to fight my screaming toddlers off because they were hungry. Everytime my son touched the pizza he got burnt. So I asked my waiter to please put my plate in the fridge or freezer or something to cool it down. And he said he couldn't because it could be a contaminant. OKAY so now you want to worry about contamination... so I said thank you nevermind and continued to hold my son down as he screamed. I couldn't move their plates because the table was so small. I decided to give my sons candy to calm them down and we paid and took the pizza with us. Oh and I can't remember much of my food regs but if one of the cooks have a beard, aren't they supposed to wear a beard net?
Out of all my visits the atmosphere was nice and the food was well cooked/worth the pricing in my opinion just as long as it isn't...
Read moreThis place definitely has its ups and downs. To start with, my favorite menu items are the fried Mac & cheese bites and the butternut tortellacci. You don't expect much from Mac & cheese (since when does a restaurant ever have truly good Mac & cheese), but these are legit. Flavor is great, the fried breading is light and crispy, and the truffle sauce is the perfect dip. The butternut dish also has a great, vibrant flavor. I've had a number of other dishes here and they generally fall far short of these. Lobster ravioli ... meh. Their special carbonara, also very meh, super disappointing for a special. The caprese salad was very nice, though, fresh with a delicious (if not traditional) array of ingredients. But I keep coming back for my top two. Oh, and this is the ONLY place in the BX for pizza since they canned Anthony's (unless you want to try the vending machine, haha). The Farmhouse is good, I do recommend that.
Sadly and weirdly, even though I'm probably a five minute walk away in my room right on site, the food is rather cold by the time I get back. I don't know if it loses so much heat on the way (not very believable), or if they just procrastinate so long before they finally put it in a box and give it to me, as I wait right there for it. In fact, once I had them set the bag practically in front of me, but they put the bartender's name on it instead of mine, and there it sat for 20 minutes without anyone having the presence of mind to tell me it was mine. Then they tried to offer to reheat it for me. Really? No.
The other thing they can't consistently get right is the free bread roll. When it's good, it's good, soft and fresh. More than half the time the crust is too hard and makes the entire thing unappealing. They give you olive oil to dip it in, and that does nothing to save it. I've taken to requesting some other sauce, like the truffle dip, just to make it palatable. I don't think the olive oil is a really good olive oil, anyway.
So, I wish you luck on your 50/50 warm food when you want to take it back and relax in your room. On the up side, this restaurant is open later than any other, which I never expected to need, but it was hugely welcome during long house hunting days, so I thank...
Read moreI have always had a good experience whenever I visit the Romano’s Macaroni Grill on Ramstein Air Base so today I have decided to give it a positive review. I typically cover areas such as atmosphere, customer service, and the food itself when reviewing restaurants, cafes, and the like.
Atmosphere:
It’s just like any Macaroni Grill back in the states. It looks the same, the employees dress the same, and it even sounds the same. I was very comfortable the entire time I was there and encountered no issues with my surroundings.
Customer service:
My waitress was very attentive during my meal and constantly checked in on me for drink refills or to ask if I needed anything. All the employees here maintain a positive attitude and take special care in making sure you have a good experience.
Food:
The food here is very good and isn’t too pricey for what you get. The bread they serve is delicious and bottomless (as are the soft drinks and iced tea). The appetizers are great but I feel as though the main entrees could have a larger variety. Still, you get what you pay for and it is worth it.
Miscellaneous:
In order to save time, it is recommended you call and make a reservation. They only accept same-day reservations sadly and if you walk in without one you may have to wait around an hour to be seated. Not an issue if you decide to shop at the BX beforehand.
Overall, a very good place to grab an Italian meal...
