This is a great restaurant for a meal before, after, or during the Erlebnispfad Binger Wald! I came here today on a warm October 2022 weekday afternoon about 2/3 through the 5.5km walking path with a friend and our four combined children ages 6, 5, 3, 2 years. There is a parking "lot" immediately in front of the restaurant, which consists of about 10-20 parking spots that you pull into directly from the road, which has sharp turns before and after the restaurant that make parking and walking a little nerve wracking, especially with young children. Once you enter the restaurant fence/gate, you are in an outdoor patio with ample seating (a portion of which is covered with a roof, and another portion which has overhanging heat lamps!). There is a hosting station right in front of you with utensils, napkins, and menus, which we were instructed by a friendly English-speaking waiter to grab and then pick a table. We chose the covered porch as it was empty and we didn't want our kids to bother anyone else, which we were glad as many people came and went in the other portion of the patio during our 1-1.5h stay. The menus were only in German, and we had no cell service to Translate, but we got by, and I’m sure the waiter would have helped if we had asked. We ordered wine for the adults and a few hot tomato and pumpkin soups, all of which was completely delicious. We could have paid cash at the table, but I chose to pay with credit card inside. Prices were very reasonable. There were a couple of small interior dining rooms as well with cozy seating, and clean spacious bathrooms upstairs. Overall, I highly recommend visiting this establishment for a meal on its own or as a break while walking the Erlebnispfad or other nearby...
Read moreWe stopped at this authentic German restaurant after a long day out. It is quite a way into the woods near Stromberg but a fantatic location and great for hiking. Unfortunately the restaurant was full when we arrived but managed to sit outside. Although a little chilly the staff came out with blankets for us and our children. We ordered our food and drinks which came in good time and the food was traditional German and very good. The only thing to take into account is that they don’t take (non German) credit cards so take cash (although it was very reasonable priced). It should be noted that the staff in the restaurant were extremy efficient, friendly and thoroughly looked after us and I would highly recommend a visit for that alone. Many thanks we enjoyed our visit, we really enjoyed it.
Read moreWe ordered two different kinds of schnitzels, both of which came with fries on the side. The portions were generous. The schnitzels tasted good. The one with mushroom sauce was softened by the sauce, so if you prefer crunchy schnitzels, I wouldn’t recommend this one. The schnitzel with caramelized onions was crunchy on the outside. Both schnitzels were thin and not dry, which was very good. Unfortunately, the fries tasted like McDonald's fries.
We were asked if we wanted to order side salads, and we agreed without knowing they would cost 4.40 euros. This was too much for a bunch of green leaves, but we should have asked for the prices, so that was on us.
As for drinks, the green lemonade tasted okay, nothing special. There seemed to be some herb in it that was masked by the sugar. It's worth trying, but it’s not for everyone. Prices were okay (see the bill).
Lastly, we went there without a reservation and were lucky to find a table available for one hour. It's better to make a reservation before driving or walking all...
