Restaurant Altrheinklause — Restaurant in Rheinauen

We had a really nice visit here – the location is fantastic, right by the Altrhein with a lovely, peaceful view. The outdoor seating under the trees and large umbrellas made it feel cool and relaxing, even on a warm day.

The food is Greek and generally very good. The taramasalata was a bit too pink for our taste (from our travels across many Greek islands, we’re used to the more natural, pale pink homemade version), but it was still tasty. The tzatziki was fresh and full of flavor. In our group, we had the octopus salad and Camembert as mains (though they’re usually starters), and also the gyros. All were generous portions and well prepared. A garlic mayo with the octopus would have been a nice touch, but that’s just a personal preference.

All in all, a great spot to relax with good food, a quiet beach nearby, and a perfect place to return to after an afternoon of paddleboarding. We’ll definitely be coming back – whether for a meal or just drinks...

Beautiful terrace facing Altrhein, surrounded by old, talk trees which offer a natural protection from the sun. I highlight the beautiful terrace, because it's hardly noticeable from outside and for me is one the main attractions of this place. I passed for years by this restaurant without being tempted to stop ... I definitely should have stopped much earlier! Friendly stuff and a nice, relaxed atmosphere are the further positive aspects of Altrheinklause. Food is based mainly on greek specialties, portions are generous, well cooked (although nothing special). For people who are ready to spend some more time, there's a beautiful, large beach in front of the terrace, and the Rhein Veloroute passing just by...

Die Lage am Wasser ist toll und man kann bei sonnigem Wetter idyllisch auf der Terrasse sitzen. Ich gehe hier seit meiner Kindheit essen und fand es immer toll. Mein letzter Besuch hat mich aus der Bahn geworfen. Negativ.

Ein kleiner, schlecht gelaunter, extrem unfreundlicher Kellner mit langem Haar hat uns filmreif den Abend versaut.

Er hat einen von uns an der Schulter festgehalten und uns verboten, den Tisch zu wechseln, als wir uns an einen anderen Tisch setzen wollten, der gerade frei wurde. Bei der Bestellung war er extrem genervt und hat uns kaum zugehört. Wir haben andere Beilagen bekommen, als wir bestellt haben. Als wir das reklamiert haben, har er gesagt, dass das Küchenpersonal ihm eben nicht richtig zugehört hat und wir essen sollen, was auf den Tisch kommt. Er hat meinem Freund den Teller mit der Vorspeise weggenommen, obwohl er noch nicht fertig war. Als mein Freund sich beschwert hat, hat er sich über ihn lustig gemacht und uns danach ignoriert.

Wir haben dann einen neuen Kellner bekommen, der uns die richtigen Beilagen gebracht hat. Das fanden wir gut. Nachdem wir bezahlt haben, hat es uns dann doch noch ganz gut gefallen und wir wollten noch eine Runde Getränke bestellen.

Obwohl das Restaurant noch über eine Stunde geöffnet hatte, wollte das Personal lieber chillen. Unsere Bestellung wurde abgelehnt und wir sind gegangen.
