We arrived in Murnau/Seehausen by train after a nine hour flight from Atlanta....the scenic 600 meters from Murnauer train station could be done by foot but with lots of heavy winterweather luggage, we met Christianne, a taxi driver from Grommistch Taxi who cheerfully took us to the doorway of our lodgings for seven Euros fare. Herr Wallmeier led us (well before normal check-in time) to our beautifully furnished vacation apartment (when off-season, as many innkeepers do, we received the 4-bed apartment for the price of a triple) Even though the main inn is around a hundred years old, we stayed in the adjacent annex built in 2002. Gorgeous high wood-beamed ceilings, great wide windows and skylights made us feel like we were in a pricey ski lodge. Great beds, soft down pillows and plenty of amenities in the well-equipped kitchen. We walked to the next town, Murnau to sightsee and shop for dinner which we prepared easily in our kitchen. Breakfast included, only from 8 to 10am though. Standard german buffet which is very generous; breads, rolls, yogurt, boiled eggs, fruit, cheeses, meats and more. Drawbacks: inn is closed for dining on Wednesdays (other than breakfast for guests) lack of a fireplace, no elevator, (which is good for walking off the Wienerschnitzel we had for lunch!) and, for SOME, the churchbells ringing from just across the street. We enjoyed the chimes, though some may not. Also the lack of anything to do after last call at the inn may drive some city folk to boredom. However for us, we wanted this perfectly QUIET village. At eight pm (it gets dark at 4:30pm wintertime) we strolled through the deserted streets. The village of Seehausen is primarily a summer fishing resort so lots of unoccupied chalet-type vacation homes in the winter/off season. Several barns have windows facing the street so we enjoyed the aromatic smells of farmyards while enjoying the peaceful walk. Just what the doctor ordered, we loved...

Read moreWhen reading the reviews in regards to this hotel and restaurant we were somewhat apprehensive. But from the moment we first walked in through the doors we knew this was the right place for our stay. The staff were very friendly and the entire atmosphere was very Bavarian in design. We had three in our group and the room we chose was perfect as it had a living area along with a separate bedroom for my wife and I. ||||Per the restaurant our waiter who I believe also had checked us in was wonderful and very accommodating. I believe since we only spoke English he may have been best suited to deal with us. All of us enjoyed our dinners very much as the food was all fantastic! The breakfast is standard fare for this area of the country.||||Not a great deal to do in this town after the restaurant closes down but our trip was based all around doing activities during the days followed by quiet nights. This location delivered to us exactly what we were looking for. Our only regret is that we were only able to stay one evening. I recommend walking down to the lake after dinner and enjoying the views of the Bavarian Alps and listening to the cowbells in the distance.||||Plenty of parking and not too far of a walk to the train station. Enjoy a beer or two in the...
