We live locally and went for dinner. I would never go back for a meal and would also advise extreme caution to others. We booked on Friday last minute. Got there on Saturday to find out there was a big wedding and as result there was only a small portion of the menu available. For sure they knew this on Friday and could have advised us this in advance so we could have decided whether or not to go as the menu items we were excited about trying weren't available.
We ordered Maishuenchenbrust (Chicken Breast) with two sides and one dipping sauce. We advised that we would share the sides. What arrived was a small chicken leg with one side one plate and the other side on the other plate. I understand that this is a smaller chicken, but this was really no more than a chicken leg. The Mixed Grilled Vegetables where Zucchini with two pieces of peppers. The server spilled the french fries all over the table and almost lost the whole second dinner when trying to catch the french fries. We commented on the fact that we wanted shared sides and when she brought fries to replace the ones that fell commented - now you have enough to share. Wow! The bottle of Coppola Chardonnay was lovely but that has nothing to do with the restaurant.
Then we moved to the bar and had Gin and Tonics. Which was the highlight of the meal and I would recommend these highly if you are at the hotel for some reason. Then it was time to pay the bill. She advised they took EC cards and all credit cards. We suggested American Express or Visa and were told both were OK. When she came with the payment machine she asked if we could do EC as it was easier for their system if we did. OK we did. Then she offered a Limoncello on the house to say sorry for the bother. We accepted. Then she came back and said they didn't have any. At this point we left.
Can't imagine the service for these prices. The one star given was only for the wine and G&T. Which both deserve 5 stars!
UPDATE AFTER HOTEL RESPONSE: Thank you for your response and desire to get in touch. I just tried calling the hotel and your reception said there is no one employed there named Cindy and did I mean to call the Hideaway or somewhere else. Maybe you can provide an email or direct contact line or your last...
Read moreOur recent stay at the Starnbergsee hideaway was an absolute delight! Nestled by the lake, this charming establishment boasts a very nice and cosy building that exudes warmth from the moment you step in.
The staff members were exceptionally helpful and welcoming, adding a personal touch that made the experience feel like a home away from home. What made this stay even more special was their genuine enthusiasm in catering to furry companions â yes, it's dog-friendly! Our daughter really enjoyed this aspect of the holidays.
The ambiance throughout the hotel resonated with a home-like atmosphere. The cozy interiors, coupled with picturesque views of the lake, created a tranquil environment perfect for relaxation and rejuvenation.
The culinary experience here was nothing short of exceptional. The on-site dining options served up delicious and flavorful dishes. Both breakfast and dinner offered a diverse range of delectable options that left me thoroughly satisfied.
Although we regrettably missed the chance to experience the highly recommended massage, our New Year's celebration more than made up for it. The hotel pulled out all the stops with a spectacular fireworks display that lit up the night sky. It was a celebration to remember, creating a magical atmosphere that added an extra layer of enchantment to our stay.
In summary, the Starnbergsee hideaway is more than just a place to stay; it's an experience. The blend of a charming building, helpful staff, home-like atmosphere, dog-friendly policies, and delicious food against the backdrop of the serene lake truly made our stay memorable. I cannot wait to return for another...
Read moreThe hotel looked absolutely beautiful from the outside and made a great first impression. However, the service did not fully meet expectations. When we arrived, there was no receptionist at the desk, and we had to wait several minutes before being checked in.
We were given the key to our room, which at first glance was stunning and very spacious. Unfortunately, the room had not been cleaned at all: there were food leftovers on the table, the bed was unmade, and overall it was in unacceptable condition. Naturally, we went back down to reception to report this. This was very disappointing, as the room itself was gorgeous but not ready for guests.
The staff apologized and gave us another room, which was clean but not as impressive as the first one. We asked if it would be possible to have the original room cleanedâeven offering to pay extra since it was not the type we had bookedâbut were told this was not possible because cleaning company canât come anymore that day. Although the staff apologized several times and assured us they would show their apologies, nothing was actually offered beyond words. I expected at least a small gesture, but unfortunately, nothing followed.
The hotel itself is very nice, beautifully located by the lake with wonderful views. However, the overall service could be improved. There was no minibar in the room and no room service available, which was disappointing. In the evening the room felt rather cold, and we also noticed some insects in the bathroom.
Overall, the hotel is indeed beautiful and has great potential, but the quality of housekeeping and service should be taken...
